Installation of Furnace and AC

I shopped around for a new high efficiency furnace / air conditioner. Cozy Comfort was not the cheapest, but the salesman convinced me that by going with Cozy I would get the best install job possible. That's where things went off the rails and the salesperson seemingly had no further involvement outside of making that sale (his crew didn't even know who he was - and had no information I have the salesperson of the specific items I wanted taken care of when they arrived). I received an "ok" install, but had to more or less sit there the entire time to make sure the crew was doing things properly (for example, they did not have proper items it hook-up the condensate line and asked me to run to Canadian-Tire to grab some items?). The install was not as per the manual and caused problems (which I will get into later). The salesman promised a communicating setup which was not completed (they set it up as a standard A/C unit). The communicating thermostat was not setup properly (setup as a two-stage furnace when I paid extra for the top-of-the-line modulating version with communicating thermostat). I had to correct all these errors myself by reading the manual and changing the settings. That's not what I paid for, I paid for it to be setup properly. If I wanted a two-stage furnace I would have paid less and purchased that.

Outside of the crew having no idea to configure the furnace / A/C properly, the install was "OK". Ductwork fabrication was fine, but it was not taped to seal holes and so forth.

After a few days, the furnace stared throwing all kinds of pressure switch errors. Long story short, Cozy could not diagnose it. After getting fed up with their useless techs coming over and wasting our time saying "looks good, try it for another week" - all the while the furnace inducer being full of water (confirmed by a tech who said this was a huge problem), I finally grabbed the installation manual and started reading. Low and behold, the condensate drain was improperly installed. I corrected it and the furnace hasn't thrown an error code since.

Finally, I had the yearly "maintenance" completed to keep my warranty intact. What a rip-off that $150 was. It involved a tech coming out, looking at the furnace, turning it on, and saying "yup - everything works fine". Not only that, he unscrewed the blower door compartment and when we left didn't even put all the screws back in (they were laying on the floor by the drain). My understanding was that this service was to clean the furnace. There was visible debris (which could be seen through the burnerbox peephole) that was there either from the install or was sucked in through the intake vent. Either way, it wasn't cleaned out. I had to do it myself (remove 1 screw and vacuum out, took about 1 minute).

I can't recommend these guys. They don't take the proper time to figure out what they are installing and definitely don't take the time to maintain the units properly. After seeing what the tech did during the yearly maintenance, that's the last time I will be wasting $150 for visual checks which I can do myself.

Company Response

Let me start by thanking you, Steve for taking the time to review your experience with Cozy Comfort Plus. The length and details included are very much appreciated and have not gone unnoticed, as our aim with every single installation and service call is to fully satisfy and exceed the expectations of our customers.
Our salespeople try their utmost to accommodate all special requests during installations, but it seems like in this case the technicians assigned to the job did were not informed of all the details before being dispatched in what can only be attributed to a momentary lapse of communication. Preventative measures are now in place to avoid anything like this from happening again.
We take pride in the skill and experience of our technicians, yet in this case it seems like there were some shortcomings related to our technicians not having appropriate or enough tools to secure the line. Sending our customers on a Canadian Tire run is unheard of and unacceptable; and we have made sure that all of our technicians understand that now.
The erroneous installation of a few parts does not necessarily reflect a lack of expertise in our technicians; nevertheless we agree that it is inexcusable. We have had many discussions with our technicians and have gone through great lengths to prevent anything like this from happening again.
All in all, I want to apologise one more time about the way things went with your installation but also let me assure you that we have worked hard to make sure nothing like this will ever happen again to our customers.
Steve, we would very much like to talk to you sometime just in order for us to get a few more details so please email us at info@cozycomfortplus.com.
Our customers are at the centre of everything we do and we are proud of our near perfect customer satisfaction record. If we do not meet or exceed your expectations in the future, we would like to hear from you right away so we can correct it or at least prevent it from happening.

Replacement of furnace, air conditioner and combi/tankless water heater

I contracted Cozy Comfort to do a HVAC replacement at my house in November 2011. Our system just failed and I needed to to replace a high velocity system with hydronic air handler and tankless water unit that is somewhat unique among HVAC systems in Canada. Brian was the main sales guy. The overall experience was not satisfactory. The quote seemed high since I found the same equipment on sale at amazon.com for half price. The crew seemed unfamiliar with the system and had to call the manufacturer for installation help. The job was not as neat as I would of expected of professionals. The outside vent had to re-caulked and the duct work needed much duct tape to solve air leaks. The system has been installed for a year and so far no problems. I recently found out the Carrier Air Cleaner that they installed had been already discontinued in early 2010. They gave me an old unit that Carrier was selling off for $35. Overall I would not recommend CozyComfort

Thank you very much Richard to take the time to review your experience, it is important for us to know how we did after each installation and we appreciate any and all feedback.
The disappointment that you have expressed in our handling of your installation is something that we do not take lightly and rest assured that the necessary steps to make sure that nothing like this happens in the future have been taken on our end.
Lack of knowledge and poor craftsmanship are not the qualities that we instil on our technicians and no matter how intricate or peculiar your particular setup might be – we are likely to be familiar with it as we have been in the business for decades. We have spoken with our technicians about this and for now we attribute the shortcomings during the installation to a few momentary lapses of judgment rather than a reflection on our entire team of professionals. We would very much like to hear from you, Richard, regarding any other concerns and details of the installation, so hopefully you can spare a few moments and write to us at info@cozycomfortplus.com
Our customers are pillar of everything we do and we are proud of our near perfect customer satisfaction record and if we do not meet or exceed your expectations, we would like to hear from you right away so we can correct it or at least prevent it from happening in the future.

Furnace repair

In Late October, we returned from a weekend away to a cold house and found that there was no hot air coming out of our vents. With a 2 month baby and a storm pending we contacted a company and scheduled an emergency service for the next day. The following day we received a call from the company we had booked who informed us that they didn't have enough technicians to keep the appointment. We called about 10 companies and finally Cozy Comfort Plus said they could make a service call within a few hours. Jay showed up within the time he said and repaired our furnace within an hour. Other companies told us over the phone that we would have to replace our 10 year old furnace (even though they couldn't make a service call until the following day). Jay told us that our furnace was well built and that we just needed a new fan. Thankfully we had a warm house and could stay comfortably with our new baby in our own home that night.

New Carrier Infinity furnace and a/c installation

After shopping around for a new furnace and a/c we settled on Cozy Comfort in 2005. We followed their directions in keeping the extended warranty for 2-10 years on parts and warranty and called them for maintenance checks in the spring and fall. A few times even though appointments were promised no one showed up for the calls and we were told that we never made the appointment. Fine. Every summer however, the a/c would have to run literally for a week to obtain a 23 degree temperature. On the last service call a tech came out and when asked why such a huge difference in temperature between upstairs and downstairs, the house is a bungalow, he said the vents were improper and went on to recharge the a/c unit with 2 oz of puron(I hope) and charged me $40 for the 2 ounces(fyi, it's about $40 / tank). Anyways when asked for the maintenance package his job was as follows, he looked inside unit outside to make sure no leaves were inside a/c unit. He then came in look at the thermostat and went to the furnace room. He looked at the furnace and determined with xray vision that the drain was working, the blower was "ok" and filters were "ok". In order to see these things one has to remove access panels but Jay was able to tell by standing in front of the furnace. Now remember how I said there was a huge temperature difference in our bungalow, he stuck a thermometer probe into the venting system and declared nothing was wrong with the temperature. The probe was placed into the vent 4 feet from a/c condenser. Now after 7 years and a "floating" maintenance rate between $90 and $190 I've had it. I went to a neighbor who had a similar system put in a year after me. His house no matter how hot or cold outside was always comfortably cool or warm. I called another tech in. After arriving and me explaining to him what my concern was he removed the panel and said and showed me that the dip switches were not reset from the default factory settings. He reset the switches so that the blower would work during the a/c or furnace operation. The house started to cool a little over the next couple of days but as per his request if it didn't cool to my satisfaction I should call him back. The techy came back and placed a jumper wire on and wow the a/c and blower were going full steam and for the first time we had cold air flowing from the vents upstairs. He went to reset the Infinity thermostat and found it was never set up to begin with. This is the second thermostat from Cozy. No matter what he tried with re programming it wouldn't work. He put on a thermostat and now we have a/c, an actually cooled house after 7 years of being told it was the "vents" and the a/c was working properly. My question is why at installation was nothing reset from factory setting by Cozy's technicians? How can they charge a floating maintenance fee when they never open any access panels to determine if things are fine? At time of installation government was giving rebates to help offset the cost. We were told by Dan that we shouldn't apply for the rebate b/c it would mean an energy audit and blah, blah, blah...We found out afterwards that we were entitled to a substantial cheque. I have nothing but praise for the Carrier Infinity HE furnace and Puron A/C system but if you go to use Cozy Comfort think twice. There are lots of companies out there. Believe when I say for the first time in 7 years we have a cool house! Buyer beware when dealing with Cozy.

Central A/C Installation

Had a brand new central a/c installed by GTA Heating and A/C Inc. of Brampton that was too small for the houise. Attempts to get the unit replaced with a larger more appropriate size were unsuccessful. ( the contractor did not return my calls or e-mail) I came across Cozy Comfort Plus and was contacted by Brian promptly. He set up an installation date in short order and within a week I had a new properlly sized unit. After about 2 weeks the condenser started to make noise. I contacted Brian and he had someone out to fix the problem almost right away. The unit works perfectly and I'm a happy customer. Brian even returned an e-mail on the long weelnd, now that's service! Based on my experience, I would have no prblem reccomending Brian and his team. And to boot their prices are excellent.

Hot Water Tank

Hello. My hot water stopped working on Wednesday morning. I called right away to cozy comfort. It is covered under warranty(parts+labor). I bought it out 9 years before with extended warranty. I have two kids. One one year old and the other one is six. They showed up on Friday after 48 hours. The guy come in afternoon and said he will be right back in half hour b/c he is missing one part. I trusted him. He left everything open. I kept calling the company after one hour. Nobody came on that day. Imagine all parts were outside of the tank and how danger it is especially when you have little kids. I and my husband called at least 10-15 times on Saturday. Finally, somebody came at 5 pm on Saturday. The guy said that he can not fix it right now. The part that is missing only can get in MONTREAL. So we were without the hot water till Monday. Still that's not it. Monday, the technician came in and said he fixed it. Again, we do not have any choice than trust him. Now, it is still not working. We called the company, they said it we have to buy a new one b/c that's the end of the life. It is still covered under warranty but they said it there is nothing they can do b/c it is the end of the life. I called the water tank company - they said it is not us , it is the company you bought it from. Cozy comfort said they denied to replace a new one. Today my husband is going to buy a new one from another company. Please never buy it from Cozy Comfort. It is a big scam. Please trust me. They do not even care that you have two little kids.

With reference to Mr. Hitesh M.’s review, we regret that after all our good intentions and hard work, in the middle of a heat wave, when we were overwhelmed with AC service calls and technicians working a 16 hour+ shifts, we still managed to send him two technicians and 5 service calls.

As we have been providing services for this customer for many years now, technicians are familiar with his unit and problems associated to it. Mr. Hitesh first called on Thursday night 24/May and was told that the supplier for his unit was not available at that time and a technician went to check the unit on Friday 25/May for which he could not find the required part, a technician also went there on Saturday 26/May, Monday 28/May which one of the required parts was changed, technician also went back on Tuesday 29/May and changed another part and had the unit working but did tell customer that if the unit stops again unit may require another part.
Sure enough Mr. Hitesh called on Tuesday night 29/May that the unit is not working and when technician returned to check the unit on Wednesday morning, he was not home and Mr. Hitesh mother was very surprised to see our technician, she told him that everything is working fine and “we all had a shower last night” (Tuesday 29/May)!! She was very nice to our technician and thankful for his follow up with the job.

We would also like to state that during all the back and forth, our technician also had contacted US to seek advice from manufacturer’s technical support to get the best job done for customer and as they had been having some problems with this unit in the past and their warranty would be over some time in August 2012, customer was advised that a newer unit with all the warranties would be advisable, we still do not know what part of this recommendation would make them upset, since they can purchase the unit from any contractor that they wish and they are not limited to us!!!!!
We would also like to emphasize the fact that all the services we have provided for this customer has been Free of Charge and under warranty.
As Mr. Hitesh’s 10 year parts and labour warranty runs out on 17 August 2012, we wish him all the best, as it has been a pleasure serving him during the last 10 years.

New furnace, air cleaner, humidifier, air conditioner and tankless hot water heater

I recently purchased a completely new furnance, air cleaner, humidfier and air conditioning system as well as a tankless water heater from Cozy Comfort Plus. I find this company to be a first class establishment. Their sales representative Dan Kar is not only exceptionally knowledgable on the product he sells, he is also very knowledgeable on installation requirements. He was able to guide me to what product I "really" need and helped me solved some of the installation dilemas I had that their competitors did not offer. As for their timeliness and quality of installation, all I can say is one word, "perfection". Their technician and installer Mori and his assistance did not only do excellent work, they are wonderful people; they are honest, polite and all around great human being. They made the 3 day installation seemless and painless.
This is an excellent outfit and is operated by some really good people. I will definately do business with them again and I would highly recommend them to all my friends.

A truly happy customer
