Ivan's Electric Ltd - No Longer in Business

Ivan's Electric relocated a number of our residential receptacle's which we are very pleased with. The contractor was on time, did an excellent job on a complicated series of relocations and was priced very fairly. Would call them again and recommend the company!

A tree fell on our hydro wires and pulled them from our house. Ivan came on the same day (Friday morning) to five us an estimate. He was here no longer than 30 minutes and presented us with a bill for $560.! The proposal for the work came to $5895. When questioned about the high price of these bills, we were told just to give them to our insurance..they will pay!! We ended up giving him the $560. for an "emergency call" and found another electrician the next day who did the work for $1700. This company is dishonest and practises profiteering on people in emergency situations. What can we do to shut this crook down??

$ 650.00 to replace and $ 295.00 for the part total $ 1580.25

when asked why so much he told me this was the standard charge and he was actually giving me $ 200.00 off-

I called after the job- to my business electrian who disclosed IVAN has a habbit of grossly over charging and I could have had my entire breaker board replaced.

Ivan took less than 30 minumtes to complete the job- which works out to $52.00 per minute....I think he charges more than a heart surgeon!!

I would not recommend this man and his company.

My mom and I were looking for a price to upgrade our fuse panel to breakers, and our dryer kept blowing fuses. The tech which has a P in his name and first told us it would cost $4500.00 to change the service. My mom said well let me think about it. And he was going to change $180.00 for coming to the house. I said what happened to getting a estimate. Then he said the dryer switch was no good and it had to be changed for a price of $500.00 well me and mom are girls and we said seeing you are going to charge $180.00 might as well fix that. ( I was smart and got him to leave the old switch) I showed this to a brother-law and guess what there was nothing wrong with it. And then our new dryer would not start, after checking eveything else. When my brother-law friend who is a real electrian came to the house he opened the main fuse panel that Ivan electric worked on and found there had been a fire. Because the person P took a short cut. My house could of burned down. Please beware.

Wind took poweline to house down bending stack in the process. As power was not disrupted by the downed line Oakville hydro disconnected the power until stack was repaired. Ivan Electric came and quoted $6200.00 for work and asked for Visa card. I said it was a lot of money but he claimed it was standard rates. BEFORE he started I had second thoughts and told him I didn't want him to do the work. TWICE I tried to stop him fronm starting the work but he refused saying I had paid him (VISA) and he had to do the work. He spent about 90 minutes actually doing the job and about two hours away from the house once he had started the job.The itemized bill I received to send to the insurance company listed the following:

Service call: $720.00, remove downed stack $650.00, Instal meter hub,piping,service mast: $2600.00, replace wiring: $2600.00, Obtain permit and arrange for hydro inspection: $950.00, Misc.$75.00, Tax: $294.75. TOTAL COST: $6189.75

The next day I did some checking and found that total cost of materials used was less than $50.00 (purchase of a new stack and hardware from Home Depot less than $50.00). The cost of obtaining the permit and arranging for hydro inspection checking with the
office in London that issues the permits etc. for my house their records show they charged him less than $60.00.

My Insurance company estimates the work done at less than $2500.

Ivan Electric is a preditor company over charging unsuspecting home owners well beyond what a fair price should be.

I had no power in one room. I diagnosed the problem myself to a burnt receptacle outside on the patio. I called Ivan's Electrical and they were at my house in about an hour. Excellent response time!
He was quick, courteous, and fixed the problem within an hour. I was very happy with the service and was prepared to refer him to friends and family until I saw the bill. WOW! $480. He charged $180. just for showing up. Another $180 to do the work, $100 for parts. All together for one hours work -$480. This job should have been half that. All in all, good work but too much money.

I was stuck so paid the price. But to hook up the blower on my gas fireplace (the outlet box was supplied) and wiring it into the breaker and to move one outlet it cost $940.00 (before taxes). After talking with people at work - they say I was ripped off. It cost $180.00 just for him to come out to determine what had to be done. I needed it done so paid it. I also had to "argue" to get him to put drywall over the old outlet. He tried to tell me it was a waste and to just cover it with a plate - even though I kept insisting that I wasn't sure where the fireplace mantel would hit on the wall. It turns out if he didn't put drywall over the old outlet - the mantel would fall in the middle of the plate he wanted to install. It took them less than 2 hours. Three weeks before it cost me $1500.00 to install 14 potlights and it took them 7 hours.

The more I think about it - the more I believe - single female - ripped off. I live / work in the area - my word of mouth will not be positive.

Ivan's Electric did a brilliant job installing our European chandelier! The electrician was quick, pleasant and the price was right. We just love having meals under that fixture. Highly recommended.
