MrRoofRepair prides itself on our excellent customer service and superior quality workmanship and problem solving which is why our customers voted us the Best Roofing company in the GTA two years in a row along with hundreds of top rated reviews by our satisfied customers. This customer was no different and we have the history and documentation on file to prove this as well as the response below in order for readers to come to their own conclusion on this matter.
It was professionally assessed that the chimney area was leaking as well as 13 attic vents . Pictures were taken as well as a detailed assessment report of the work and the pictures clearly indicated the leaks and stains and the customer agreed to move forward with proposed work on March 30th 2011. The work was completed on time for the exact rate quoted and customer was pleased and was sent pictures and a updated report on the work completed.
April 26th a month later the customer called with a leak and that same day during a rain storm we were on site within an hour to assess the cause and inform the customer from the office as well as from on site on the roof that the leak was not related to the repair but rather the masonry work and cracks in his bricks on the chimney a non roof related issue. We helped out the customer at no charge to seal the brick work to slow down the leak and sent him a report and pictures clearly indicating the cracks and also referred a masonry specialist to help him get this brick work done. See below.
on site repair and summary gratis to customer:
completely sealed all flashing and sealed some stone work where stone is coming apart leaving cracks which allows water in
Repair Summary:
There are 6 new cracks on stone work at the back of chimney that were not there previously. Went into attic and there is some wet wood
Sealed all cracks visible in chimney morter with brown chem caulking today as a temporary repair. Added additional sealant in areas where there were cracks as extra protection.
Chimney speciality copper cap needs to be sealed all way around – there is not a lot of clearance - needs to sit on brickwork 6 to 8 inches and only sits on brickwork half an inch.
We suggest that homeowner contact a masonry expert as soon as possible to further assess the situation and provided a company to do so.
Customers email reply: on May 17th almost 3 weeks after we returned free of charge his reply is as follows :
Mike- We finally got a hold of a masonary for the chimney, his recommendation/solution is to replace the current metal covering put a metal flashing that will drive the water away from the chimney stone and not allow it to absorb into it. He does not do that work and suggests to contact another masonry that does.
The masonry issue was left for the customer to pursue we did all we can to help
May 18th customer emails us : May 18th Anything u can do to help would be so much appreciated. i am obviously reaching out to you because you got our roof work. Getting someone out just to tarp will be difficult and time is not on our side.
We responded same day that although the brick work required is not a roofing issue we would be happy to come back to tarp the area as requested for the standard service fee again helping the customer but he declined.
Much to our surprise he posted a review that doesn't reflect the history of what transpired and we totally back up and offer warranties on our workmanship but this on going brick work issue was not related to anything to do with our repair process that is still water tight.
Its unfortunate after excellent customer communication throughout every step and recommendations to further help the customer that a review is posted in spite for issues totally unrelated to our work.
Hopefully this history and response will allow readers to come to there own decision with a perfect track record on all our repairs.
We sincerely hope the customer gets his brick work issue resolved.
