Worst move of my life (and I've been through more than 30!).
IF YOU VALUE YOUR POSSESSIONS AVOID USING THIS COMPANY!!!!!!!!
In October we moved our home from an apartment in Richmond BC to a brand new home in Maple Ridge. After reading all the positive reviews and recommendations on this site about Galaxy, we settled on them as our movers. We have nothing out of the ordinary, in fact, we had disposed of much of our furniture prior to our move. We had also moved most boxes and odds and ends into our new home prior to moving day, so all Galaxy had to move were wooden tables, cabinets, chairs, beds, etc. Nothing oversized or out of the ordinary.
Just about every piece that Galaxy moved for us was damaged to some degree - everything from 2 foot long scuffs and scratches to broken pieces. The home we moved into was brand new. Galaxy damaged the walls and hardwood floors in our new home, as well as damaged the corners of walls in our old apartment. Nothing was covered, or protected. When they arrived for the move they handed us a roll of tape and instructed us to start taping up the doors and moveable pieces on the furniture. When the roll ran out, they advised they didn't have any move. When I went down to the van I noticed that NOTHING was blanketed or protected - wooden pieces were stacked up on each other without anything in between - this in spite of there being brand new blankets inside the van!
The movers tried to hide the damaged pieces as they moved them into our home, rather than acknowledge their carelessness. One of the movers was struggling with the workload, - to the point that we were concerned he would collapse. By the end of the move things had gone so badly that I asked them to place the last piece, a cabinet, in the garage, as I could not stand any more damage to the home or cabinet - IN OTHER WORDS, GALAXY COULD NOT PROVIDE THE SERVICE THEY SAID THEY WOULD.
At the end of the move I talked to Brent - the moving crew supervisor, to explain my concerns, the extent of the damages, and how we could get this resolved. Brent assured me that the damages would be corrected promptly, after they had received full payment for the move. Needless to say, I paid them (the cheque cleared within 2 days), forwarded pictures of the more extreme damages to them within 48 hours, and that is the last I have heard from Galaxy, inspite of repeated telephone calls and messages to their offices to check on the status of my claim. It's been a month.
I have subsequently had the piece Galaxy parked in the garage moved into my home by competent, PROFESSIONAL movers - they laid out carpets, blanketed the piece prior to moving it, took care to protect the walls, floors, and furniture, and had the job done within 15 minutes!
