Benchpinning and waterproofing

True North did a fantastic job of bench pinning the basement of my semi-detached 100+ year home. I obtained several estimates from other contractors I found through Homestars. Daniel was the most straightforward and knowledgeable in answering all of my many questions and patiently explaining the exact process for the job. The professionalism extended thoughout the duration of my project as small complications came up and were resolved with the best outcomes. For example, in the original plan, the bathroom was going to be raised up to the height of the bench to avoid losing floor space. A fantastic plumber who subs for Daniel proposed a plan to keep the floor level with the rest of basement. This change was discussed immediately with Daniel and implemented the same day. The core team of Leo and Kevin started work at 7am on the dot everyday, maintained order and kept things as tidy as possible in what is a naturally messy job.
For anyone considering basement work that requires digging up, permits, etc, I would highly recommend True North. You will be in good hands.

Basement Renovation

My wife and I are new homeowners and this was our first substantial renovation. The experience with True North was incredibly positive. The work was done on schedule and within budget. Daniel listen to our objectives and gave us a number of reasonable options to achieve them. Quotes and invoices were timely and the team carrying out the work was friendly and always on-time. Given the horror stories you sometimes hear with basement renovations, we were happy to have such an uneventful and stress free experience.

We hired Daniel's team to underpin our unfinished basement. We were completely satisfied with the service. Leo and Kevin were amazing and dedicated workers. The job was completed earlier than expected with minimal disruption to our daily life.
Daniel's excellent communication skills and patience were crucial in alleviating any concerns we had regarding the project.

Basement Underpin to 8'2"

We embarked on a major reno of our semi this past fall and underpinning was the largest part of it. We met with all the top companies but weren't 100 % satisfied with any of them (tip: owners, don't send your son out in his fancy sportscar). Then we met with Daniel and immediately we knew who we wanted to go with. He knew our area well, knew the inspector, knew the issues we faced, and was very upfront about what the job entailed. Daniel is a straight shooter, delivers on his word, and his numbers were good to boot! His boys started on time and knocked off the work in 3 1/2 weeks -- must be a record underpin! The site was organized, the foreman was a nice guy, very personable, and Daniel or Josh were around plenty to make sure things were progressing smoothly. Of all of the contractors we worked with, Daniel and his crew turned out to be the best. Thanks for the great experience Daniel!

Basement underpinning

This is a long overdue review. We had our basement underpinned and waterproofed by Daniel and his team in the summer of 2015. We ran into several challenges along the way and Daniel was quick to respond and provide fair advice, options and solutions. Josh and Edgar were onsite daily and were friendly, professional, clean, hardworking and respectful of our property and family. We cannot say enough about this company or the work they do. We would, will and have recommended Daniel and his team to anyone.

Underpinning and beam replacement

From the first phone call with Daniel, to his first visit, and right to the end.... professionalism, courtesy, unparalleled service and a commitment to his word.

Daniel visited our home and walked us through every step before providing a quote that was 100% accurate by the timothy work was complete. As promised, he provided an incredibly professional, friendly and courteous crew that finished the job a full week ahead of schedule, and went so far as to power wash our driveway to remove any signs of dirt and debris when hey were done.

And as if that weren't enough... the crew made sure our neighbours were happy and that our kids were safe while they were working outdoors.

Daniel and his team are outstanding. And an incredible pleasure to work with. Save the stress... hire True North now!!!

Best Service!! New Concrete Floors for Commercial Basement

I'm a female shop owner (who staffs and service clients whom are all female as well) and have had multiple experience with construction companies and contractors and it is always something I dread each time I have to do renos.

Having spoken to three other companies, I felt Daniel was the most honest with the job and was open about possible additional costs (which we didn't end up encountering). Working with such an old building, I was afraid of unexpected costs, not only were there none, Daniel reduced my final invoice total by helping me avoid unnecessary work.

His team at True North are completely professional, friendly and incredibly enjoyable to work with. My staff were always comfortable and they were very respectful with making sure we are able to continue to operate our shop with minimal disruptions. Highly recommended and would definitely call on again for future projects. From my team to yours, Thank You Daniel and team, Merry Christmas boys!

Excellent Experience End-to-End

Brought these guys in for a quick one week project to replace some decaying brick columns and add beams to reinforce our place. Daniel was extremely helpful and easy to work with through the sales management process and the day-to-day crew were complete pros -- even going the extra mile with clean up. Will definitely use them again if we decide to do the full dig in the basement. One of the best home contracting experiences we've had to date.

Non-Standard Basement Underpinning

Look no further, this is the team you want to work with for your project!
After discovering a crack in the foundation wall in our basement, we contacted the True North Underpinning team after reading numerous positive reviews on Homestars. From our initial conversations with them, until the end of the project, Daniel and his team were extremely courteous, professional, helpful and thoughtful. They were genuinely interested in doing things the right way, involving us in every step of the project to make sure we were well informed and happy with their solutions.
We originally expected that we would be doing a standard three stage underpinning of our basement. But after some investigation, Daniel’s team discovered that one corner of our house was being supported by steel beams on top of concrete piles, and that the house was originally constructed as such because it was built over top of an old farm well or silo. Because there was no solid earth within the walls of the well / silo, Daniel’s team could not proceed with standard underpinning approaches for that part of the house. They worked with K.H. Davis Engineering and Techno Metal Post to find a solution that involved helical piles, a rebar cage, a concrete grade beam, a cathodic corrosion protection system and a whole lotta grout. The short of all that is that this team is highly capable of dealing with non-standard and challenging scenarios, and will put in the time and effort to solve the problem correctly.
Josh was the foreman on our project. He is incredibly friendly, a hard worker and really knows his stuff. He led the team each day through all phases of our project, and is passionate about his work. The whole team were courteous towards and respectful of our neighbors, cleaning up their equipment each day and also hosing down our shared driveway and sidewalk. The team were also great with our young kids, who were excited by all of the tools, trucks and equipment on site.
We are so happy with the finished product. We went from a 6 foot to an 8 foot basement, upgraded all our basement plumbing, installed interior water proofing with weeping tile and a sump pump, and have a nice, clean and level basement floor. On top of all that, we have the peace of mind knowing that our house is now structurally sound thanks to the great work that Daniel, Josh and the team put in. While it’s nice to have our basement finished, and our house put back together, we actually miss having the guys working here every day.
We would highly recommend the True North Underpinning to anyone looking to take on an underpinning project. You will be extremely happy that you hired them to do the job.

This was definitely not typical project but it was a successful one never the less. We were happy to be a part of the great team you had to solve your unique foundation problems.
