Transformative! Made all the difference

My old 19th c. house has woefully undersized ducts for the second floor, and no return. Consequentially, central AC was just never possible. You could freeze the ground floor but it never would reach upstairs. And in the winter, although heat rises, the upstairs was always a few degrees colder than downstairs. We would close off one room upstairs to maximise the heat.

Aeroseal has completely changed the situation. They spent most of the day working on my system, which it turned out was not only antiquated but insanely leaky -- probably one of the worst duct systems they'd seen. They had to make multiple repairs, in addition to the sealing, which required them to cut the drywall in the basement. One of the ducts was completely disconnected within the wall, and they reconnected it.

When they finished the difference in air circulation upstairs was obvious. They did a before/after analysis, which measured how much better the system was now working -- but really just holding a hand by the upstairs vent proved that it was working really well.

In fact, I recently got in touch with them because I needed to rebalance the heat so that LESS goes upstairs. It was about three degrees warmer upstairs! They'd advised me not to tinker with the set up without consulting, and Victor was very helpful in explaining which vents to open, which to close, to balance the heat better.

Before they did my ducts, any kind of central AC was a non-starter. Now I can get a central heat pump/cooling unit and feel confident that it will be able to actually cool my upstairs. I really didn't think this would ever be possible, so I'm very happy.

The crew was very professional and did a good job cleaning up. Highly recommend!

Best home investment

The crew did a fantastic job and it's like they put a turbo in your heating system after the job is done. All my HVAC vents have seen significant increase in airflow. The room temperature are now more evenly heated. Its hard to calculate if you will see saving in heating cost but I didn't spend the money for that purpose. It's mostly for comfort. I am using Ecobee with many room sensors so it's easy to see the pre and post install differences.

It Works!!

We have an old house that had very low airflow to the top floor which made the bedrooms extremely hot/cold depending on the season. After Aeroseal came and sealed and rebalanced it was like a completely new system. We were very close to upgrading our furnace and A/C units think that was the problem so this also saved us what could have been a costly, and inefficient, investment. Definitely worth calling.

Air Duct Patching and Sealing

Victor, Yuri and Victor were excellent to deal with. Yuri arrived promptly, explained the process to me and solved a lot of my heat imbalances in my house. They kept the house clean and were kind and patient with my questions. They found and patched a few holes in the duct work and closed off some ducts that made some rooms too hot. I already feel a distinct difference in the consistency of the house temperature and don't hear the furnace cycling on and off as much. So glad I did it. Only wish I did it sooner.

air duct sealing

This is a worthwhile investment. We had rooms that are colder and some that are hotter. Before they seal our air ducts, we had a whopping 58.9% leakage in our air duct. They were able to seal it and our leak is now down to 0.4%. Our air conditioning works so much more efficiently. On those really hot humid days, our air conditioning got our house cool in under 1 hour. Before it would be working for half a day to bring down our temperature by 2 degrees. They balanced our air duct by adding dampers. Our house is comfortable throughout. We have been having a hot summer. I am so impressed. I won't be able to comment on energy bills since I only had it done about 2 weeks ago. But huge difference in the comfort of our home. We noticed it immediately. Our air conditioning works a lot less and with less effort to cool down our home in this hot summer. I expect this to save on our electricity and gas bill in a long run.

Aeroseal of 3500sqft Home

After I moved into my 3500sqft home, I noticed during the Summer, the second floor was always a few degrees warmer than the first floor. It made sleeping some summer nights difficult. The registers on the second floor barely had any noticeable pressure when the HVAC system ran. This was not as noticeable in the Winter since heat rises.

An initial solution I had attempted was, I obtained additional wireless temperature sensors for my Nest thermostat as an attempt to force the HVAC system to reach a target temperature specified for the second floor. This improved the situation a tad but the HVAC system was running almost continuously.

I had heard about Aeroseal on This Old House and felt it might be applicable to this home. After contacting Victor for a quote (whom went into great detail about the whole process), I agreed to proceed with Aeroseal'ing my home and I am so glad that I did!

The house was Aeroseal'd late May 2022 and (as of writing this) it is currently July 2022. Immediately following the Aeroseal, we recovered over 300CFM and noticed a huge improvement! Even during our major heat waves that hit over 30 degrees, we were able to keep the second floor at a cool 22 degrees! That was previously impossible!

Thank you Victor for restoring my comfortable summers! :D

Aeroseal Duct Sealing is a patented breakthrough technology that tackles leaks from the inside out. Aeroseal software allows the technician to accurately measure the duct leakage in residential homes and commercial buildings. The Aeroseal process puts escaping air under pressure and causes polymer particles to stick first to the edges of a leak, then to each other until the leak is closed.

The technology was developed within the Indoor Environment Program at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, whose IAQ scientists tested it. The research was funded by US Environmental protection agency, US dept. of Energy, Electric Power Research Institute and California Institute of Energy and Environment.

The University of California was granted initial patents in 1996 and 1999, and Aeroseal holds an exclusive license to the technology.
