Step By Step Construction Services

So I wanted to finish my basement for the longest time but was afraid to take the leap as I’m a single mom and I’ve heard countless nightmare stories about contractors taking advantage of ppl in my situation. I searched for a company that could meet my needs on my terms and found step by step Construction. This company is amazing to say the least !! Ken and March we’re not only transparent and overly reasonable but super professional and made me feel great about the decision I made to start my basement Reno; in addition to their positive attitudes, patience and impeccable professionalism, their work was flawless and they really helped me bring my vision to life. It’s just stage 1 for me but I will definitely be having them back to assist on completing my project. If your looking for honesty, and people that ACTUALLY care, these are the guys to call. My expectations have been exceeded From first phone call to the day of completion, I have no reason to consider any other contractor for the next stages of this job. I’m looking forward to having them back. I can’t thank them enough. Go with them; I guarantee you will not be disappointed!

Hired step by step construction to replace my deck boards in June 2020. Ken and March did a great job. Happy with their service and how they kept in touched and made sure I was satisfied.

Called step by step, they were the first person to call from three other companies. Fair prices, even better work. As a quality control engineer, I have a keen eye for detail: I was impressed.

We hired Step by step, not being sure about them at first as they are a new company. Well , we are very happy that we did. They delivered an outstanding result and were well within our budget and time frame . We would recommend them highly to anyone who is in the market for getting their basement done. March and Ken are nice people. However, March didn’t stand behind his work. In a nut shell, March didn’t start on time and pushed back the start date, his material list was off twice (I had to keep buying extra lumber), ALL of his hvac boxes had banana bends and were not straight, the shower was neither level nor square, the fireplace framing was not level, there were missing pieces of lumber in the shower and door frames that needed to be added, some framing in the hallway was crooked so the drywall appeared waive-like etc. March worked two half days and one full day. He rushed through the job to move on to the next. When I called him back to fix the issues, he said he was too busy and it would take weeks. There were also problems with the electrical panel as the frame wasnt built out enough to accommodate a door.

Most aggravating was that after March started the job, Ken text messaged me demanding more money. He claimed he wanted extra money to frame the fireplace although we discussed it in advance. This was akin to extortion. I paid it as I was afraid Id get a bad job. In hind site I got a bad job regardless!

At the end of the day I had to pay a lot more money to a real framer to correct the garbage job I received.

Unless you know a thing or two about framing, levelling and squaring in order to go over the quality of the work, I do not recommend this company.

While Step by Step offers competitive pricing, you get less than you bargain for. I added one photo as a taste of the quality of job to expect.

March and Ken did a fantastic job of our basement. The price was very fair and they went above and beyond ensuring that everything was done correctly and precisely. They suggested ways to use the space, coming in according to budget and time. Great and aconplished craftmanship!. Would use them again and easily highly recommend them to anyone else
