Was going well at first. The first diagnosis was simply a clogged drain hose and a broken check valve that needed to be replaced. Cleared the clog, and I was told that once the check valve is installed there will be no problem. So I was quoted $240 for the labour and $82.34 for the part itself. Paid the deposit of $184.24. But the next day after the valve was installed, the machine was still not working properly. And this time I was told that it is the problem of the sump and the whole thing will need to be replaced. And this time I was quoted $600+. It is not worth it at all since I could get a brand new decent dishwasher for just above 1 grand. So I decided to stop the repair. The repair guy told me the check valve won't be charged because it did not fix the problem. However they are charging me for the service call(which is fair), AND the check valve, which is the complete opposite of what I was told. I called multiple times attempting to discuss this matter. The lady on the phone told me that the owner Stan could offer me $20 off. But it is not justified at all to pay for a part for a failed repair attempt. I was told that Stan will call me in person real quick, but after hours of painfully waiting, I have not heard from anyone.
They all seem like nice and polite people, and the repair guy was working hard on the matter. But the moment I decided to stop the repair, it all turned into this frustrating loop of bargaining. They kept telling me that this is not a false diagnosis, it is impossible to diagnose this problem until the valve is installed. But from a customer's perspective, it is nothing but excuses for a false diagnosis and a failed repair. It is your job and responsibility to make an accurate diagnosis and repair. This is why we pay for the service. It makes no sense to make a wrong diagnosis and order the wrong part AND make your client pay for it.
I feel bad that it ends like this. They did not even refund me after the $20 off. But I'm done calling and waiting and bargaining over less than a hundred bucks.
Update: Stan tried to reach me but unfortunately I was at work and missed his call. Later I found that they refunded me $82.34 for the part. Kudos to that.
