MAG Solar - Calgary

I signed up with these guys after they came to my door in Calgary last summer. The sales guy was all keen, got us the contract, but the catch was we have a low-slope roof with mop-on asphalt roof and no attic, and the Mag crew could not figure out where the rafters are; they have to know precisely in order to mount the panels. In the meantime, I had a roofer check the roof for suitability; turns out it would need major work done before installation, and because the roofers in the city were tied up with hail damage claims, that couldn't happen until next year. Nonetheless, Mag sales guy insisted I pay $630, I think it was, for a "pre-assessment", I think they called it. Of course there was no point if they didn't know where the rafters are; they just wanted the $630 in their pockets before I bailed. When I told the sales guy by email that we'd have to postpone until spring and asked if we could revisit the contract then, he replied that no, he'd cancel the contract - and that's what he did, promptly, with no explanation or further discussion. Another thing he tried to pull was get me to give him a good review online, on the morning we did the contract, which I didn't do - what was there to review at that point? I'd say shop around, and don't fall for the pre-assessment nonsense until well into the process (if at all), because you won't see that money again.
