Dr M.Sunda
I moved into my current home in 2006 and within a month I had to hire a roofing company to change the skylight due to water leak. The same contractor also replaced the shingles at my request and the plywood at his recommendation and later I realized that he did not provide me with adequate explanation for changing the plywood. In spring 0f 2011 there was a water leak from this newly installed skylight. I had a 10yr warranty on this job. I contacted this roofing contractor who was non committal in his response to inspect the leak and did not respond to my repeated calls. It was a desperate situation due to the heavy rainy season and I went through the telephone directory to find a roofing contractor. Gordon Bailey from Academia roofing company responded to my call at 7pm that evening. He replaced the Skylight on the very next day and went into my attic for inspection. Gordon took several pictures and explained to me in detail about the poor workmanship of the previous contractor. The former contractor did not use the tongue and groove plywood and the plywood he installed were not clipped together. The bathroom fan duct was not connected to the outlet on the roof. The skylight he installed was poor quality, not properly installed and had few cracks in it. I hired a company in summer of 2010 to add extra insulation to the attic and this company did not insulate the skylight structure, did not insulate the attic far enough and did not inspect the soffit for blockage.
Gordon Bailey impressed me as highly knowledgeable with the expertise in this industry. I decided to hire this company to replace the roof. This include new plywood, shingles, re-insulation of the attic, new fans for the two bathrooms with timers, fully vent soffit, gutters with large down pipes and leaf screen. This company hired an electrician to replace the six spot lights to current standard before insulating the attic, installed spot lights to the soffit and additional electrical work at my request at no extra coast. They repaired the damage to the interior wall left by the water leak and two Coats of painting.
Gordon was readily available to answerer my calls even late in the evenings, gave me detailed information about the products he installed. Based on my experience their workmanship is high quality, the crew was hard working and did an excellent job in cleaning up. Joe the foreman always seemed pleasant and meticulous at his job. Their cost is expensive but you get what you paid for. It was more cooler inside the house compared to previous summers and more warmer this winter with this new roof. This was a learning experience for me to be vigilant in hiring any contractors in the future.
