I had to pay $985 (original quote to move the belongings to Barrie, even though I'd told them it would have to be stored for a few months) to move one truck load from a Scarborough house to a storage facility 17km away. It was stored there at Michael T's (the owner) advice, rather than in Barrie where I'd eventually be (if there was damage, I wouldn't know if it was their truckers, or the storage facility's). Several months later when I had a place I arranged for my stuff to be delivered to Barrie, only to find out from the drivers I had to pay another $985 (summer rates, you know, according to Ann T., owner's wife). If my stuff had been taken to a Barrie storage facility in the first place, having my things delivered to my new home would have cost much less than it did with MoveWorks. I would NEVER recommend them! I must point out that I did speak with Ann about storage in Toronto rather than Barrie because her husband recommended it. She said she'd speak to him about it. I never heard back from her about that, nor did she ever respond to the numerous emails I sent about the whole situation. In response to the company, I reiterate. My belongings were stored in Scarborough, not Mississauga. I was advised to use local storage, and have the same company do the final delivery. Yes, I said, MoveWorks Inc. moved my stuff 17k from my house to storage in Scarborough for $985. In July they picked up my things from storage and brought them to Barrie, so yes, two moves. I knew nothing about the second charge until the items had been unpacked, then I had to make a trip to the bank to get the money. I don't dispute the amount of the charge from Toronto to Barrie, it makes sense, BUT why did I not get a refund on the 17k trip from the house to storage? Why was that also $985?

Company Response

This review is simply and completely unfair. We moved Meighen twice. First into storage in Mississauga and then out of storage to Barrie. Both moves were done well, there was no damage and both moves came in within the agreed upon price. No damage, no overbilling and good customer service throughout. The issue was storage and whether this customer's goods should have been stored in Mississauga or Barrie. This customer had 2 options. #1. We could arrange storage at a public storage facility in Mississauga at as good a rate as was available anywhere in the G.T.A. at that time. #2 Meighen could arrange the storage for herself in Barrie, as we have no contacts for storage in Barrie. In either case, she would she would pay the storage fees directly to the storage company. The point here is that we arrange storage as an accomadation to our customers. We do not make any money or profit on this. In most cases, the choice of location involves the following logic- storage at point of origin - in this case, Mississauga offers 2 benefits - first, the customer has easy access to her goods. Secondly, if the plan is to have the same mover do both moves, then the customer saves paying the travel time, to and from Barrie for 2 moves. The cheapest solution would be to have one mover pick up the goods and deliver these to a storage facility in Barrie - assuming that the storage rates in Barrie are lower in Barrie, and then have a local mover, move them from the storage facility to her new residence. The weakness of this plan, is that should there be any damage to the customer's furniture and goods, it would probably prove difficult to determine which mover was responsible, which in turn would make it difficult to get compensation for damages. All of this said and for the above mentioned reasons, most of our customers choose to store locally. In every case the choice belongs to the client and Meighen chose to store in Mississauga.

I love the unit itself, and the location - Coulter St. facing the park. Previous owners had been here about a year. I now understand what I believe is the real reason they sold the unit - the amount of noise I hear from other units. Most of the time it's nice and quiet here, but when the people above or beside me have their TV on, I hear it. I just turn my radio up loud enough to drown out theirs. I can even hear the phone ring in the unit beside me! I already complained to Property Management about this - seems hardly anyone in this building complains about noise. I found out from the neighbour above me that there was lots of complaining when the building was new. I was very disappointed to realize the building structure was so poor. It never occurred to me to ask about noise when I had the condo inspected. It's a Pratt Home - I expected high quality. Oh, I'm sure all building codes have been met.
