Didn't Show Up, Didn't Apologize
DO NOT HIRE GET MOVERS!! My husband and I recently hired Get Movers for a move to a city 3 hours away. The move date was originally scheduled for September 30, however, Michael from Get Movers phoned a few weeks before the move to ask if we could reschedule for the 29th. In order to accommodate them, my husband and I each had to take an extra day off work, the tenant that was living in our new place prior to our arrival kindly vacated the place early so we could move in a day ahead of schedule, and we had to pay for an extra night in the new suite. But no problem, we were happy to do what we needed to do to guarantee that our big move went smoothly. September 29 rolls around and we are fully prepared and ready to go. The majority of our furniture and boxes are easily accessible in the garage, everything is packed and wrapped, and we are anxiously awaiting our 10am start time. By 10:20, the truck had not arrived and we hadn’t heard a peep from Get Movers. The contract did have a 1 hour buffer policy, so we remained patient and calm, and reached out to Michael just asking for an ETA on the truck. He said he would contact the truck and get back to me, but I didn’t hear from him again until I phoned him at 11am, when the 1 hour buffer has passed. Michael casually informed me that he couldn’t get in touch with anyone in the truck and asked if we could reschedule if they didn’t turn up in the next few minutes. He was completely nonchalant about this, as if we had mixed up our plans to grab a coffee together. I reminded Michael that he had already rescheduled on us, and informed him of all the inconveniences we endured to accommodate their schedule, and he didn’t even remember doing this, despite sending me an updated contract with the new moving date and time. My husband and I became more stern with him, and for the next two hours he continued to say he would call us back and never do so. Every time we phoned him the status was the same – he couldn’t reach the truck. How is this possible? Get Movers’ website boasts GPS tracking in all of their trucks, and there should have been 3 movers in the vehicle who each have their own phones. Michael was completely unfazed and unapologetic every time we called him. By 1pm we had lost all hope that the truck would show up. We called a few other moving companies before accepting that we were going to have to get a U-Haul and do this move ourselves. We spent the next few hours under intense mental and physical stress and didn’t hear a word from Michael after the last time he had promised to call us back. Unfortunately, the size of truck we needed wasn’t available at U-Haul so we had to make the long drive back the next day and rent another truck for our remaining belongings and pick up our other vehicle. Our move was also supposed to include my beloved upright piano, which is why we were going to pay Get Movers for 3 movers instead of the standard 2. My husband and I were unable to move it ourselves so we had to leave it behind. I am devastated about this. We phoned Get Movers again on our second day of moving and spoke with Danny. We explained the situation and all of the events that had transpired since their company failed us the previous day, and he was no more empathetic or apologetic than Michael was. We asked what they were going to do to make this right, and were told that we cancelled the move so there was nothing they could do. WHAT? We didn’t cancel… YOU DIDN’T SHOW UP! We expressed this and Danny said, ‘let me call my supervisor and phone you back’. Guess who didn’t call us back? Our deposit was returned by etransfer, but no one from the company has reached out to us to apologize or rectify the situation in any way. This whole ordeal caused us a great amount of physical and mental stress, the loss of my cherished instrument, and significantly more time and money than if we had just planned to move via U-Haul in the first place. So do yourself a favour and hire any other company. Get Movers is completely unreliable and has horrendous customer service. We don’t want this to happen to anybody else.
