Joe came out to provide an estimate and found that the bricks around the fireplace were no longer made. Premier size bricks are about 20 years old and brick manufacturers now make larger bricks. To use larger bricks and cut them to size would have doubled the cost of the project. Luckily Joe was able to use his resources to find the correct brick size from probably the only place in Ontario that had them available. He also had the foresight to recommend a coping stone on top of the brickwork to prevent future damage. The value Joe provided by taking the time to find the correct brick size (I tried calling a few places no one had the right size) and the coping stone to prevent future issues made me realize how good these guys are. I can see why they are rated so high on HomeStars. Next Dwight showed up on time and prepared. It was obvious that he really knew what he was doing as the coping stone was about 600 lbs and had to be lifted about 8 feet to rest on top of the fireplace. Not an easy task. I honestly thought it couldn't be done. However Dwight and his team creatively came up with a solution and managed to lift the 600 lb coping stone up 8 feet and rest it into place without an issue. I was truly impressed. I'm very happy with the work they did and I'm confident that the water damage issue we had will not return. Afterwards I was talking to a friend that has experience with brickwork and he mentioned that he thought the job normally should have cost at least 50% more (assuming we had the correct brick size). I would highly recommend A&A Masonry to anyone looking to have the work done the right way the first time.

Thanks Steve! Joe was our first mason, and Dwight is my star for that kind of small job. I think they both enjoyed solving that problem for you. --Andy

Our older AC unit broke down and needed replacement. After looking at consumer reports and determining that American Standard was at the top of the list I found Craig and his team through a Google search. Craig was very accommodating and even met me at my house at 6:00 am when it was convenient for me to provide an assessment. The newer AC units are much larger than the older ones as AC manufacturers don't make anything less than 13 SEER now (we previously had a 10 SEER unit). Unfortunately we're limited in space where the old AC unit was located and a larger unit wouldn't fit properly without removing or damaging some interlock landscaping we had installed. Other contractors suggested we move the AC unit to the backyard which wasn't favorable. Craig was able to come up with a solution using Ameristar (a sub-brand of American Standard/Trane) which has a smaller footprint. Thanks to Craig's quick thinking we were able to keep our beautiful (and expensive) landscaping and keep cool right before the heatwave.
