I hope this review can help anyone else out there who is considering hiring Terry for their renovation needs. He was very professional, friendly, and accommodating when meeting with me to build a quote for my project. We agreed to a tentative start date, and I sent him a 25% deposit to secure a spot in the queue. Since then, our project has been delayed endlessly. No communication occurs unless I initiate contact. It has been one year since we sent the deposit and no work has been planned or done. After requesting a return of my deposit multiple times, Mr. Owen has stopped answering my calls and e-mails. My recommendation would be to look for someone else, who is more reliable and trustworthy.

Our gas range oven stopped heating up one day, but the burners were working fine. I called Energytech, and they were able to send someone the next day. The technician was quick to diagnose our problem (faulty igniter) and recommend a course of action. He also had the parts with him, so the fix happened right away! It was quickly and professionally done, and our oven was back in action right away. I felt safe (COVID protocols) and our technician was friendly and knowledgeable. I would not hesitate to contact this company again!

Our air conditioner stopped blowing cold air into the house and was making terrible noises. We called Reliance and they sent a technician out the next day. After a brief and thorough check, the technician took time to explain the problem in detail so we would understand the cause. He had the part in his truck and fixed the unit straight away. He also cleaned the unit for us which was an added bonus. He was extremely knowledgeable and polite, approachable and friendly. We would recommend and hire Reliance again in a heartbeat.

Made an appointment to get my dryer vent cleaned. When the technician arrived, they noticed that the dryer vent actually was not installed up to code (therefore couldn’t clean it). Instead we agreed to replace the dryer vent ducting and new vent cover for the exterior. It made sense since we wouldn’t need to clean the brand new ducts and also to get it up to code. The work was done right away, as the technician had all parts in the truck. Only took an hour and very satisfied with the results. Technician was thoughtful (booties over shoes when indoors) and very polite and well informed. Would not hesitate to recommend or use again!

I selected Reach Restoration after looking at reviews on Homestars. I contacted a few companies for quotes, but Jim was a) the fastest at responding, b) the most consistent with his communication, and c) the best at explaining the job the needed to be done, but also suggesting work that should be done with solid reasons based on his expertise. I am thoroughly pleased with the work him and his team have provided. Jim and his team were professional, conscientious, and extremely skilled from start to finish. I contacted Jim and he dropped by within the same week to do an on-site estimate. He is an expert at what he does, and explained all his suggested improvements to me in a way that was easy to understand. This was very important to me, as I am not versed in any technical aspects of masonry and had no idea what tuck pointing was, nevermind talking about mortar joints or parging. After discussions with Jim, the final project included: tuck pointing for all areas where the mortar had worn away due to water damage, re-parging the side of the house which had been done incorrectly, and installing new stone window sills for two windows. The mortar was in poor condition, the cement on the existing parging was crumbling away (giving bugs and animals access to the interior - ugh), and the existing sills were deteriorating. Jim and his team have restored the exterior of the house to look the way we have always wanted. Everything is crisp and clean, and looks absolutely amazing. The team was great with giving us updates on the work as it was occurring, and finished the job in 5 days (the weather was great all week). They cleaned the site up very thoroughly after every work day and we were never inconvenienced in any way by the project. Our neighbours had nothing but good things to say about how the work went down. Some dust got into the house, but that is to be expected as our house is not a hermetically sealed tomb. Nothing a quick vacuum and Swiffer couldn't fix in 10 minutes. I've uploaded some photos to show the before and after. Please pay attention to the following things: 1. The colour of the mortar that they mixed matched the existing mortar perfectly. These guys are artists. 2. I tried to find the step crack in the side of the house after they had finished tuck pointing, and couldn't see it! I had to reference an old photo to figure out the location. It is literally GONE. I cannot speak highly enough of Jim and his entire team. They were the right choice, and have made our house a better place to live. If we ever need any work done again, I would not hesitate for a moment to call Reach Restoration! THANK YOU for everything!!

Carolyn, The men and I would like to thank you for your project.
Dust is infiltration is always a concern in confined and shared areas of semi detached houses and we were fortunate to be able to get the neighbors onside in keeping windows closed and AC units shut off during the preparatory work. Best of luck in your new home.

Assisted Review

An assisted review is collected by a contractor on behalf of the homeowner after their work is completed. The homeowner must confirm the text of the review and may make any changes she or he deems appropriate. The homeowner then assigns the contractor a review score out of 10. Assisted reviews receive the same scrutiny as other reviews and must follow our review guidelines.

We did an online quote request and quickly received a quotation reply. We booked with Canaduct because of highly rated coupled with great reviews, and was priced accordingly. I have to say the reviews for this company and what customers are saying is on key. I had Paul and Patrick service my home, was really impressed with the work that these two had done, my furnace and ducts are cleaner. They also made suggestions that helped us to feel better about the quality of air in the home. We were having air flow issues from one of the vents.....Patrick resolved this issue removing toys from inside the duct and pointed out that the damper was closed, now air is blasting through that vent. Impressive service, thank you gents for all your work!

We purchased a 100-year old semi in downtown Toronto, and had a few concerns with the electrical in the house. Home inspection revealed knob and tube in the master bedroom, and visually the outlets seemed old and misplaced. Light switch boxes were in strange locations, and the second bedroom didn't have a ceiling light fixture. After reading reviews on Homestars, we called 4 companies. 2 of them never returned my calls. 1 could only schedule my on-site quote appointment for 3 weeks away, and they were very hard to get a hold of on the phone. Captain Electric answered my call immediately, their front desk staff were knowledgeable and polite, I had no idea of technical terms for the things I needed to get done, but they understood exactly what I needed. They sent Enrico to my house that same week to do an on-site inspection and quote. He was so thorough, so patient explaining all the work he suggested should be done (not in a pushy way - in a "if this was my house" way), and the quote came back with options ... I was very very impressed with the process, with his professionalism, and his knowledge - especially of older homes. I hired him immediately upon receiving the quote. Enrico was scheduled to come in the week following the quote, so I never had to wait for the work to be done. Him and his apprentice Kevin were super punctual. They were also the most conscientious workers. Booties over their shoes. Drop sheet where they kept the tools. Bags taped to the wall under areas they had to cut/drill to minimize dust. And they even cleaned up afterwards! My impression was that Enrico and Kevin went above and beyond what was quoted for my job. I had knob and tube removed from the master bedroom. The house has no attic, so there were holes cut out in the walls to fish out the wires. But then Enrico plugged the walls back up and put drywall compound over it to patch it right back up! Completely unexpected and done in a professional manner. They installed a ceiling light outlet in the second bedroom where there was none. Perfection. They replaced an old macgruber hack job in the upstairs hallway (outlet with three plugs...?! from previous owner's "electrician") with an updated plug and again, they filled in the hole that was left. It was cut into the wainscoting, and Enrico even put a groove in the plastered area to make it look like the wainscoting was intact where they had cut. Amazing!!! They installed an astronomical timer for my front porch light (automatically changes on/off time according to almanac/longitude/latitude), and changed my front hall 3-switch panel that had been installed INTO the doorframe into a standard 3-switch panel outside the doorframe ... And then yep, you guessed it, they patched up my doorframe with some putty to keep the frame intact. As I said, above and beyond! When Kevin moved my couch to get to an outlet, he noticed one of the couch legs was loose. So he screwed it back on and drilled it so it wouldn't get loose again! Now the best part. It only took two days! These guys are machines. Enrico and Kevin - THANK YOU. I now have peace of mind about the electrical in my old house, I now have faith in hiring contractors from Homestars, I feel so good to know I was not "ripped off" (which I was expecting as I was sure my ignorance of electrical systems was pretty much tattooed on my forehead). You guys will be my first call when we renovate the second floor. The ESA inspector passed the work with flying colours, we have had no issues, and we honestly couldn't be happier with the quality of work, cost, and time it took. Guys - thank you to you and your whole team. It was an absolute pleasure!!

Thank you Carolyn. We are always happy to hear when someone is pleased with our services. We believe that when a project is well executed, that things go smoothly for both the homeowner and the company. (Enrico and Kevin might seem like machines, but I have seen them stop to eat, and take a break on occasion - lol). You mentioned drop sheets, bags taped to the walls where drilling or cutting, and clean-up afterwards ... to our team, this is an integral part of our work. When we have completed any job, no one should be able to tell we were there, no trail of bread crumbs, no garbage or debris. Thank you Carolyn for putting your trust in Captain Electric, and we look forward to seeing you next time. ...bw
