Hardwood installation I hired a construction company to do some reno work around our house. One of the first things I wanted done was some hardwood instillation in my house. The company I hired a subcontractor named Yann to install the hardwood once I ordered it. Unfortunately, the hardwood I ordered from Timber Town arrived but was missing the nosing piece to put at the beginning of the stair where there was carpet. This piece did not arrive on time and the subcontractor Yann came to start the installation work. The subcontractor Yann was late every day to start work, it took him twice as much time as I was told it would take to get done what he did get done and the subcontractor Yann dropped tools on the floor and multiple pieces needed to be replaced at my expense. The subcontractor Yann left on the 5th day but the nosing and a few pieces of flooring still needed to the replaced. Yann had told myself and my partner that any day when the pieces comes in he would schedule on a day that works for us and finish the job. That it was not going to take him long any he can do it on any day. Timber Town got the nosing in a few days later and as soon as it arrived I picked it up within an hour from their call. I contacted Yann and asked him if he could come that night to finish but he stated no. I worked the next two days and he told me he was coming the next day after I was done work, then canceled. Then the next day after that he planned to come and finish the work. But I was 10-15 minutes late arriving home from work and he cancelled again. I had to go out of town after that for a few days so he told me he took another big commercial contract and could not finish the job for two months. He could not find a few hours in two months to finish the job he started. I immediately called the company owner and he reassured me that he would get another subcontractor to finish the work. Within a few days I was in touch with a new subcontractor Greg. He came finished the job and even fixed somethings he thought the first guy did incorrectly. The company owner arrived as the job was completed and I paid him in full for the completion of the work. Got a receipt signed as I had paid them 30% prior to starting and the 70% upon completion as per our contract. A week after completion I received a text from the first subcontractor Yann asking to get his money. I told him to talk to the company owner as we discussed someone else finished his work and I paid the company already. He continued to harass me and text me that he had not gotten paid and I told him to talk to the owner of the company as I paid him in full and I have a receipt to prove it. But he did not stop harassing me via text. He got even more upset and became threatening to take a lien on my house. I had paid and had a receipt to prove it but he told me he can't reach the owner. Since he can not take legal action on him, he was going to take legal action on me. He started making demands once he did reach the company owner and was told he was not going to get the initial amount, that the company was deducting 30% because the company had to pay another subcontractor to finish his work. The company told him they would e-mail transfer his payment on Sunday and he further harassed me and texted me that he is getting his money and wants it today (which was a Friday) not Sunday. I immediately spoke with the company owner who said he woukd talk to him. No sooner did I hang up the phone that the first subcontrsctor Yann, Yann texted and said if he does not get paid by noon that day I will have issues. Issues mean he will get a lien on my house. The only way to get him to stop was the construction company had to pay him for a complete job in which he did not complete.
