Our initial consultation with Rowan was great. He was friendly, knowledgeable, and not pushy at all. We had a good idea what we wanted to accomplish with the renovation but it ended up being vastly different from our finished project and we could not be happier. At first we wanted to open up the main floor of the house to make allowances for more light in and update the look. Rowan brought his engineer in to do drawings so we knew the scope of work involved. This turned out to be more than we were prepared to take on at this time. Rowan had some good ideas and suggested we take some time to think about the work we really wanted to, and could afford to, have completed at the time.
With Rowan’s help, and working with the existing floor plan, we decided to proceed with replacing all the hardwood on the main floor including the stairs, replacing the external walls with and adding spray foam insulation. We also put spay foam insulation in the floors in 2 of the bedrooms over the garage and the external wall in the master bedroom. Pot lights, trim and paint completed the to-do list.
As with any renovation there were some hiccups. The dining room light was installed in the wrong place, the flooring by the front door had to be changed and the transition into the kitchen and bathrooms needed adjustment. In all of these instances Rowan was able to listen to our concerns and we were able to come up with a satisfactory solution.
I had chosen new lighting for the dining room and front hall, Rowan was able to source these for me and saved us a bit of money. He also helped us choose the wood for the floors and while we did not originally want oak, the 3inch oak plank is beautiful and was the right choice. He suggested a paint color for the halls and while I was dead set against it, I trusted him and it looks great.
The crew working on our house were very professional. I work close by so I was able to stop in on my lunch to see the progress. The guys didn’t seem to mind the interruption, in fact they would take a few minutes to explain what they were working on and what was next on the list to do. The work site was cleaned each night and their tools were contained to one room. They were very respectful of our house and our belongings. Non-work areas were draped off to minimize the dust, and a cleaning crew came in to dust and vacuum the work area before we moved back in.
We would highly recommend Rowan and his team from P2 Contracting and we will use them again.
