I have spent a fair amount on home renovation materials in the last year or two. Most of our shopping is done at Lowe's. Their prices are good, staff are friendly, some are more knowledgable than others, but that is to be expected with a big box store. They have made special requests to manufacturer's for us and gotten back to us in a timely manner. They price match, so they really can't be beat (on products or brands that they sell). Their online system is also very good, easy to search products, has even more variety. Store pickup is convenient, but slow at times, I cannot complain though as it saves me the time of searching up and down the aisles. This is my go to store for home reno.

I purchased stone, gravel, edging, mortor, etc through Ottawa Brick and Stone. They were a pleasure to deal with and even allowed me to return leftover material that was unopened. They have the best variety of products in the city. I was happy with the products. I did the work myself, so I can speak for their laborers, but the customer service was excellent.

I had several different quotes, Stewart Roofing was not the cheapest, not the costliest. They had the best online reviews, plus my sister used them to do her roof a year earlier and was very pleased. Also, not that many roofers push the OC shingles, which come highly reviewed. Stewart Roofing was also more well informed with respect to warranties when it comes to semidetached homes, not preaching falsely as some other companies did. Stuart did a great job and did it quickly. They were able to come at the time requested and did not leave a mess. They even cleaned our eaves trough, which were in need of a cleaning.
