We hired Allen for a complex renovation project. Overall, we are quite happy with the results; however, getting there was a frustrating experience. Of course we realize that renovations often take longer than anticipated, but we became aggravated by the whole crew's attitude that we were perpetually "almost done". Ultimately, it took more than twice as much time to complete the job as they initially anticipated, and towards the end Allen became increasingly impatient. Workmanship was great at the beginning, but began to slip towards the end. We could see he wanted to move on to his next project, and we had to constantly be monitoring the crew and quality of work. As one other reviewer wrote, he was combative. He was highly defensive about obvious mistakes, and it was a struggle to get him to take responsibility for them. In the end, we are quite satisfied with the results, due to excellent sub-contractors and tradesmen, but Allen's communication style left a lot to be desired.

I had about 30 square feet of my driveway that had been cut and removed by another contractor, who then claimed he couldn't repair it. Many paving companies didn't want the job, and one even quoted me $1000 just to show up! Mr Black Topp was able to do the job for a reasonable price within a few days of me calling, and it looks great now. Nick came ready to work with a great sense of humour and a very positive attitude. Highly recommended for small asphalt jobs.
