High Efficiency Furnace Installation

Moved into a c.20yr-old home over the winter, which still had its original furnace. Wanted to upgrade this functional-but-gas-guzzler to a new High Efficiency model. Called five HVAC companies, including Airworks. Jerry was the salesman: he came armed with all the info I could ever have wanted in terms of Energy Audit and other rebates; took the time to explain anything I asked about; did not talk bull or leave info out; and was a genuinely nice guy to chat with.

After deciding to go with Airworks for the installation things got a bit more problematic - Lisa in the office consistently failed to impress: forgetting to fax confirmation; getting our file confused with someone else; failing to call back promptly on several occasions (although to be fair at least one of these was possibly due to a failure of another coworker to pass on a message to call). In addition to these issues, there were frequent references to office system problems - going down/needing to reboot/having been offline all day for repairs. Combined with a phone system which seems unable to transfer calls at all (or staff who do not know how to use the feature if it is available) I was becoming a bit concerned about having made a mistake in choosing the company.

Fortunately when install day rolled around (which was quite prompt initially, and a cancellation allowed us an even quicker install date) both installers showed up very promptly just before 9am; were pleasant, polite, and efficient workers. Every join was properly connected and sealed; old chimneys were not just capped but sawn off right at the ceiling, reattached to the beams at their new ends then sealed; new air intake/outlet were beautifully aligned to minimise the damage to brickwork and thoroughly sealed.

Tarps were laid down; any remains were neatly tidied away - as I said to them at the time, if it wasn't for the new furnace I would never have known they were even here.

One problem did come to light at the end of job, when I was being walked through the new thermostat & shown the system functioning (obviously in the current late June climate, a full test of the heating was not on the cards!). Our electronic air filter, which worked quite happily and we wished to retain, had ceased to work. Woody took it apart again, checked for power and confirmed that the unit was being supplied - any fault must be within the front panel. I was offered a paper filter of the right size for a stop-gap measure.

Immediately after signing the paperwork (and being given all relevant copies for the Cool Savings rebate, including a preaddressed envelope!) I called to confirm installation and the problem with the air filter. I was told that Chris would call me back.

I did receive a call from Chris within about an hour. He had taken the time to speak to Woody about what he had done on-site, and asked me what make & model it was; proceeded to tell me where to find the front air intakes and that I should check them for dust or other blockages, since this would be enough to prevent it turning on. I said I'd give it a scrub, let it dry and call back if it continued to be a problem - but Chris nailed it first time. Dismantling the front panel revealed many years worth of buildup, some of which had been dislodged from a fine layer throughout the interior to fall across the inside of one of the air intakes in a big clump - once it was cleaned, *poof* and a functional air filter once more.

What could this company do to improve their services?
Overhaul internal phone & computer systems and tighten up procedures for office staff. Sales & tech side are both rock solid.
Any advice to offer fellow homeowners facing a similar project?
Get multiple quotes, and JOIN CONSUMER REPORTS! I had several different HVAC guys tell me that Brand X is the most reliable/top 3 for years or similar. Some even had print-outs to back up their claims. Actually joining Consumer Reports and verifying the most recent data proved that some of the info I had received was simply no longer correct - that and a bit of Googling for manufacturers provided enough info that a couple of otherwise excellent-sounding quotes did turn out to be too good to be true since the brands were considerably less reliable, less financially stable or both than others.

Furnace and Air Conditioning Install

We spent a great deal of money on air conditioning and heating, and there were many issues right from the start... It took a long time to get things straightened out, but eventually AirWorks came through.

Installed new furnace

Mark, Chris and the team at Airworks were great. Our 20+ year old furnace died on a cold winter night - I made the call to Mark, and received a call back 20 minutes later. Given how late it was, he was unable to schedule the furnace replacement for the next day, but he offered to bring ceramic space heaters to our home to get us through the next day/night. Chris came promptly the following day with the heaters, and checked everything was fine with the old furnace. The crew came the next morning, delayed by a couple of hours due to a snowstorm, but were still finished and had everything tidied up by 6:00pm that evening. Our new furnace is quiet and efficient. The Airworks team were very courteous, trustworthy, and reliable. I wouldn't hesitate to refer them to our neighbours and friends.

Furnace, A/C and Water Heater Replacement

When considering a complete replacement of our 19 yr. old furnace, 16 yr. old A/C and 19 yr. old water heater, we contacted Airworks because of the prior successful installation of a humidifier. Tony came out when promised, gave us a competitive quote and answered most of our questions during the meeting, then a few later via email. We decided to go ahead with the installation of a new high efficiency Amana furnace and A/C unit, and a new Rinnai tankless water heater.
Surprisingly they were able to do the job within 2 days after signing the contract. The crew showed up a bit late (9:45 am or so) and so ended up finishing the job around 8 pm. To their credit they stayed until all the work was completed, rather than returning the next day to complete the A/C unit, which they had said they might have to do.
This was a big job to try to complete in one day, and of the 4 men who started the day, one left around 4:30 and the other one left for a few hours then came back in the evening. If they had all stayed the whole day perhaps they would have been finished earlier.
The furnace works great so far - won't know about the A/C until the warmer weather, but they promised to have a tech. come right out if we have any problems. The tankless water heater takes some getting used to - with the colder incoming water temps. this time fo year (February) the flow rate is not what we expected (although it meets manufactureres specs.) It's OK for showers, etc. , but it takes about twice the time for my wife to run her bath water than before. When we called Chris Ireland, the owner, about our concerns, he promised to come out and test the system to make sure all was working as it should, which turned out to be the case. For those who are considering a tankless heater, just make sure you understand what flow rate you will be getting in winter conditions.
As for the promised energy savings, we'll see when our next gas bill arrives...but we are hoping to see about 50% savings on the gas supply part of our bill.

Furnace repair; maintenance; new humidifier

A few years ago our furnace was giving us problems, so we called the gas company; they came out, incorrectly diagnosed the problem, and fixed so it worked for a few hours. It got worse and conked out completely on the weekend. I called the gas company, and got the answering service who promised they'd call back within two hours... of course no one ever called. Finally, Sunday I called Airworks. Again I got a service, but this time I DID get a call right back, and a service tech within a few hours, exactly as promised. They diagnosed the problem correctly, and fixed it so that it has continued to work to this day. Since then we've had them do regular annual checkups on both heating and air con; today I bought a humidifier for our new house. They came and installed it the same day I first called! I'll stay with Airworks for life, and would recommend them to anyone.

Furnace

I noticed my furnace was not working on one of the coldest nights of the year (so far), it was starting up but not staying on, after checking for clogged vents and blown fuses as the father of 3 young children I decided that I could not wait until the morning to get it looked at.
I called the number on the sticker on the furnace, and was told that they were too busy to take any more calls and that I would have to wait until 7:30 am to talk to anyone (it was around 10:15pm at this time), this was not acceptable so I looked in the telephone book and started agonizing over which company to call.
I picked Airworks because their ad caught my eye and it said they don't use contractors like most of the other companies do.
When I called Airworks a very friendly receptionist named Lisa told me what the cost would be right up front (barring any unexpected circumstances)and took my information and address.
I had just resigned myself to a long night when Chris the technician called me to let me know he was on his way and to get some information on my exact situation, after I explained the symptoms he totally caught me off guard by telling me what I needed to do to fix the problem OVER THE PHONE.
Honesty is something that I value highly when I am dealing with a company, and for Chris to help me out in this way instead of coming out for a service call and possibly even selling me additional unneeded parts, which he could easily have done if he was dishonest, speaks volumes about his integrity.
Thank you very much Chris and Airworks. I am already telling all my friends and co-workers about your company.

Furnace Replacement

Really happy with the services provided. They weren't the cheapest company around but they certainly weren't the most expensive either. Prices seemed reasonable and they were fast, neat and precise. Furnace is now a year old and we're very happy with the work.

boiler repair

My husband and I have been really pleased with the service we have been given by this company . Rob always calls if he is late and is always polite and professional. Although, our boiler has been a royal pain in the butt, it is comforting to know that we have good help available to us.
Also, when a holding tank fell from the ceiling of our furnace room around midnight, Chris (the owner) came over right away to make sure it had not damaged any of the gas lines. The next morning he sent two very knowledagle and skilled workers to fix the tank and fasten it more securely to the ceiling. What a relief!

My Furnace was not firing and it was getting cold at 12 midnight

I had an unresponsing Furnace on a chilly November night. I discovered at 12 Midnight that my furnace was not responding properly to my thermostat's direction. I checked all connections and breakers in my basement, but could not figure out what the problem was. My Wife and 2 small kids were already well into their sleeps, and i had to figure this out before I went to bed.

I called my contact number for AirWorks 905-609-heat and idiscuss my situation with the technician on the phone (not an answer service, but a real furnace technician! He explained that he went out for an overnight call the week prior and all it was was the "furnace switch" was off. I put the phone down to go and see the switch in my home - and sure - enough my 4 year old son has played with the switch to see "what light that it controlled".

By this time it was 1:15 AM and I had to get up at 6:15, so I was THRILLED to have a smart person help me on the phone with my inocent problem.

Continuous great work AirWorks! I will keep your number close at hand because of my many positive experiences!
