move

I chose Ultimate Choice because their reviews were great, their prices very reasonable and Phyllis was so helpful and patient in answering all my questions. Most people seem to have had a great experience with UCM, but I unfortunately didn't. Only one of the movers actually showed up on time, the others were 2.5 hours late. The move didn't end up starting until 11:45, and was scheduled to start at about 9am. While that was upsetting, Michelle offed us a discount in price for the delay, so we felt that the company took care of that problem. Things went downhill from there. The movers damaged furniture, used my microwave as a stepping stool, smoked in the back of the truck while loading (we later found ashes in the new house brought in on the furniture), scratched the walls and ceiling at the new house, put a dent in the hardwood floors and 2 of the movers complained loudly the whole time about the number of stairs in our home. We also found out that it was the first day on the job for one of the movers. If I wanted an amateur, I would have done the move myself. It took several attempts to get hold of the owner, when I did she was not willing to hear my concerns. She hung up on me for getting upset. Of course I got upset, she didn't want to hear what went wrong. I was willing to let it all go and not even have the company fix anything, I just wanted the owner to hear from me all that went wrong and perhaps make sure that those things didn't happen to another customer. Someone from UCM will respond to this review by turning things around and some how making this my fault, just as they have with all the other negative reviews on this site, but customers need to know, things can go wrong and if they do, don't expect the owner to care.

Company Response

Hi Becky: I am in receipt of your letter to homestars. You booked your move with our company to start between 9-10am. Like you said we did show up at 9:15am. As explained to your boyfriend that day, one of the movers got hurt the day before and all shifts had to be rotated around hence this was the reason for the delay. A discount was offered to you to compensate for this mishap and was gladly accepted by you. We have great reviews from our customers and unfortunately we were unable to make you happy. You see when you start to yell and scream at people, it doesn't help. I tried to speak to you in a very civil matter to no avail. I kindly asked you to please call back when you were willing to speak to me like a human being and not speak to me using such vulgar language and screaming. As for the damages, the scratches that you are claiming were already present upon my inspection of your items prior to moving you. As explained to you in detail, this was done by an amateur and flat paint was put on lacquer which cannot be done. The only problem was there were flakes of paint coming off due to the furniture not being done correctly. I also was at the back of the truck when your microwave was being packed and rest assure it was not used as a stepping stool. I watched it being wrapped and placed safely into the truck. Movers are not permitted to smoke on the truck; therefore, I am not sure of where the ashes you claimed are coming from. The crew that was sent to you was full time employees of our company and not amateurs as you claim. Not always the same crews work together, so sometimes they don't know one another. That is what John expressed to you. There was a small scratch on your wall that we offered to fix but you declined since the crew doing your renovations you said they could do that since they had the paint already. To finalize this whole ordeal, with all due respect Becky, no matter what we did or tried to do for you, we just could not please you. If I/We didn’t care, I would not have returned your call. The moral of the story is you were just not a workable person and only liked to be heard and did not want to hear what anyone else had to say. As expressed by you to us and the workers, you were flat broke and were seeking compensation for your move since you could not afford to pay for it. This is a terrible way for you to try and do that.
