If I could give a lower rating I would as 0 stars is too high. My complaint is with their design and installation process for a staircase for a new cottage build. During the design stage for my newbuild, I answered all their questions regarding my choice of hardwood flooring. They never asked about the subfloor for the basement and I later found out that they did not compensate for this blaming myself for not mentioning it. I though they were the experts. For the installation, I confirmed with them that drywall was not needed in the staircase area for install but was required for the railing install. When they came to do the staircase install, they said that drywall was required adding delay and cost as I could have done this earlier and cheaper if I knew. BTM was not apologetic in any way. Now I am trying to get the railings installed and I am beyond frustrated. I am in cottage country and with a recent light snowfall they complained that the property was not accessible. Other contractors used the driveway with the light snow successfully but not BTM. They also now want to charge me for the site supposedly not being accessible as I was not able to respond to them immediately when they contacted me as I was in a meeting at work. I spent multiple hours to arrange for a plow when I got their message that day but then they said I had to guarantee the safety of the driveway and will not undertake the installation. I hired the largest snow removal company in the area that also maintained insurance but that was not good enough for BTM. I respect that people do not want to risk getting stuck in snow and I have no problem with a plow for safety, but how am I supposed to guarantee safety? Its even worse that they are now trying to push the railing installation to myself. Now my project is delayed further. I am not able to comment on the quality of their staircase yet. Its a never ending saga with BTM and if you are thinking of using them for a new build in cottage country, I strongly recommend that you seek alternatives to save yourself the headache.

I had BTM trim out my whole custom home and it was the worst experience as a contractor. First it started out with my trim being delivered on schedule like discussed. But my doors were delayed. They said that they would continue with install of the door frames with temporary doors and i did not like the idea but they went ahead anyways. When the actual doors were finally delivered, many of the doors were damaged and frames were extremely off and several of the doors didn’t close properly. There was also many casings cut short and
dap missing in many wood to wood joints, as well as nails
missing in tons of the door stops and shoe mouldings. I
asked them to fix trim and adjust doors and was given the run

around and ignored for weeks. All while my move in date was
just over a month away at this point. I had two individuals
from the company which were not installers, come out and look at the horrible work done and they said it was a great job meanwhile they hadn’t installed anything door or trim related and my contractor had 35 years of experience. They told me they would reduce the price by $1250 which didn’t even cover one door to be removed and reinstalled, let alone 6 of them and all the trim. The disorganization of this company is brutal. A manager will not call me back to resolve this mess. Then they went ahead and took a unauthorized payment and sent the rest of the invoice balance to collections instead of contacting me to satisfy the client. Customer service was absolutely horrible and no one should use them.

After removing the tired carpet from our stairs we found typical contractor-grade materials. BTM then installed new oak treads and risers over the existing resulting in a first class stairway. The woodworking craftmanship and finish is excellent . The installer was very personable, polite and made a point of thoroughly cleaning the entire work area. I am pleased to recommend this company and the installer.

My husband and I had a problem with some of the trim the installer from BTM installed, as well as some incomplete jobs that were not finished. There were areas of very poor workmanship with the trim installation. When calling to inform the manager of this problem, the manager stated that the individual that installed the trim had been there longer then he has, and that there was no way he did a poor job. The customer in this case was blamed for BTM problems/errors. Very poor customer service, and I will not be using this company again.
