Beach Gardener The

I absolutely DO NOT recommend these people. We had our front steps done several years ago to the tune of about $25,000 by The Beach Gardener. Big Mistake. First, the retaining wall they had put in collapsed on the sidewalk about 10 feet from our kids in their stroller. Just no warning then an avalanche of tons of huge heavy blocks of stone. Someone could have been killed. I was stunned. Our property looked like a bomb site. It took me THREE DAYS to get a response from the owner. I allowed them to come and fix their mistake. I told them do that and we'd be fine. That was MY mistake. I should have fired them immediately.

Flash forward a few years and the whole landscaping of TONS of stones on a hill leading up to our front door began shifting BADLY. We called and emailed and called and emailed and NO RESPONSE. No support. No "Let's come have a look and see". I wasnt even asking them to fix it for free (Yet). BUT NOTHING in response.

Flash forward a little more to the present. The entire job has shifted so badly it is going to cost us AT LEAST $18,000 to have it fixed. We called and emailed AGAIN asking that they at least come and look at it. And, you guessed it NOTHING. SILENCE.

No fewer than THREE engineers have assessed the situation and ALL have concluded that it was not properly built in the first place. The retaining wall, which is the key to the whole thing, was improperly designed and poorly built. This is not only bad planning it is DANGEROUS. One of the engineers suggested that their negligence is legally actionable, even 8 years later.

(UPDATE: As I write this, we are having the repair work done at great expense. The new contractor and workers yesterday were taking everything apart and just laughing at how poorly the retaining wall had been designed and constructed).

Go on their website. There are loads of pictures of beautiful-looking landscaping. But looks can deceive. I have heard similar stories to mine bout this company- that the work is not structurally sound/shifts badly over time and that there is NO RESPONSIBILITY taken by the contractor and NO SUPPORT provided. IN short, they do not stand behind their work.

So...go ahead and hire these guys. BUT if you want someone to be there if there are problems or if you just want something structurally sound, GO ELSEWHERE. There are plenty of other options out there. People who will actually back up their work. DO NOT HIRE THESE PEOPLE.
