Bigelow Heating & Air Conditioning

Wish I've read the reviews before I called this company. This technician Grant kept on asking more and more money for a simple call. It's no use trying to be reasonable with him, his voice would be louder than yours - that's his business tactic. Either intentionally or unintentionally he kept on making mistakes, then correcting his mistakes, and eventually charged us over $1000 for putting in a low grade thermostat and an ignitor. Totally unprofessional!

We had a new furnace installed by Bigelow heating and air-conditioning, the technician Grant was very good and all work was completed on time. They had to remove our old oil furnace and oil tank and this was done a lot faster than I expected and the oil smell was removed.

Grant gave us an excellent quote so we hired him and Bigelow to put in a new gas furnace, this is an older home that had an oil furnace. They were great, very professional and when the Enbridge Gas inspector came he wanted to know who Bigelow was because everything had been done to such a high standard, to quote him "this guy only knows perfect"!

Very rude service man installed the system about 2 years ago. Has not worked properly since that time. Service calls and same technician who is very arrogant and appears under trained has not got the unit running to specs. Originally had the system way over charged and then released to much pressure. Had to call another service company who determined the issue and fixed it. Very ignorant service person at Bigelow, I think his name was Grant.

Bigelow Heating came to answer my service call late at night, my ventor motor seized and that were able to repair it the same night. It was one of the colder days of this year and we were kept staying warm. I would recommend them for their services.

We're really not impressed by their lack of communication.
They came to look at a squeaky HVAC. We pointed to the part that needed repair. They didn't have the part and then charged $130 for the 10 minute visit.

Ultimately if we had been told of any costs associated with the visit that would have been ideal. Or alternatively when we called it would have been helpful to be asked to send a photo of the part needing repair, we would have saved them time and ourselves the fee.

The other issue we have with this billing practice is that it doesn't promote fair competition. If we pay $130 to every HVAC company to provide a quote we can't price compare with multiple vendors.

The learning experience here is to lead the conversation with the people you call. They are a service company and experts, but clearly don't have best practices or clients wallets in mind.

Bigelow saved the day on a very cold Sunday without any heat. They were professional, responsive and repaired the furnace that another company was unable to fix earlier in the day.

After using Bigelow for exclusive installation and maintenance of our heating and cooling systems for more than 20 years, I am sad to say we have now severed our business relationship. The problems started in the spring with an attempt to service our outside wall-mounted air conditioner. First there was a no show and then the serviceman did not have a long ladder and the third appointment was skipped because of other emergency work. (I understand emergencies. All they had to do was call and I would have gladly rescheduled.) We went without the usual service this year. My wife booked an appointment for some work at her office and they were once again a no-show today. Company founder Mr. Bigelow told her she failed to confirm. She reminded him she confirmed the appointment twice. We know what the problem is because a company employee told us that Mr. Bigelow is old and makes appointments but forgets to write things down. Mr. Bigelow seems to be the only person answering the phone in the office these days so I don't know how any business gets done. We have had great service from the technician Grant for many years but we have not been able to reach him.

We used Bigelow first for replacing the coil in the AC handler. Grant took care to make sure condensate drainage as more than adequate as the unit is on the 3rd story. we use Bigelow for our annual service on the AC and our aging hw heating system. Other than sometimes getting appointment scheduling a bit confused we very much like their service

I've been dealing with Bigelow Heating now for over 8 years, and unfortunately little things have been building up to their overall service not being acceptable. They replaced our boiler furnace less than 5 years ago (it was not cheap), and just recently noticed that the main pipe that connects to the unit was completely rusted with a slow leak starting. This main pipe was also replaced with a new one when the furnace was changed. They serviced the unit for the yearly cleaning less than a month ago and never even bothered mentioning the rusted pipe. Decided to consult with a plumber and he said that the problem had to do with the connection of a copper pipe with a steel pipe...a big no, no! Stupidly we still went ahead with Bigelow Heating to make the corrections, which was a steep $411 to do it. Also they left the place a complete mess when draining the boiler. We are not happy at all!!!
