Main floor renovation

Alair South Etobicoke was wonderful to work with!! Right from the beginning Brian gave us confidence that project was going to stay on track for budget and time and he did not disappoint. The Alair Client software was a easy to use and gave us confidence and we knew where in the project we were at all times with budget and schedule. Our Project Manager Eric was great to work with, showed up daily to deal with any of our questions or concerns and helped out when needed to keep the project moving . The trades people were highly skilled, always very polite and kept the job site clean at the end of the day. Highly recommend Alair South Etobicoke... great job!!

Kitchen and entrance hallway renovation

We hired Brian Fletcher and his team to renovate the kitchen and entrance hallway of our century home in west Toronto.
The meetings to set up the project, discuss options and budget were detailed and very helpful. I had a good understanding of the work, cost and project schedule.

The reno involved gutting the existing space, adding insulation, some reframing and adding ceiling joists to open the space up, new cabinetry and countertop, ceramic floors, electrical, minor plumbing, new window and entrance door, closet.

The quality of the work was very high, fit and finish excellent, attention to detail and client satisfaction excellent. We are really satisfied with the open and contemporary look that we achieved.

Brian and his team were professional, conscientious and dedicated to completing the job. We were kept very well informed throughout the entire project, and we continued to live in the house throughout the renovation.

The work was completed within budget estimates and only slightly behind scheduled project timelines.

The project management was excellent. We were kept well informed of daily and weekly tasks. I would highly recommend using Alair South Etobicoke.

Main Floor Reno

We hired Brian about a year ago and I'm finally mentally recovered enough to be able to leave this review.

Our (brand-new) floors and (brand-new) sub-floor are not even close to level. We're fixing ourselves. It is much much much less stressful because I know I am not being deceitful to myself about feasibility, scope, timelines, and cost. Our quotes never included the Alair fee nor taxes. Kind of hard to budget that way and it wasn't made clear that costs were missing until we asked directly what was included. ("Oh ...you thought my quote included my fee?!?" He says while somehow incredulous).

Witnessing the subcontractor meeting with Brian was an enormous red flag that was in retrospect full of shadiness. The sub-contractor was flagging issues with the floor with Brian waving him away and trying to downplay concerns since I was present. There was a language or cultural barrier so the subcontractor didn't immediately pick up Brian's signals to zip it. To be clear there was no written or verbal communication that we should expect a 3" bump (or any!) running down the middle of a 10' wide room.

Constant weird (avoidable!) communication issues about what the total fee would be: Why on earth would I be looking for a quote without Alair fees. Very shady.

We also ended up paying for things to be reversed when his team executed poorly just to get them done right. They also leaked cement all over our basement and the large puddle and drips are still there. Also broke two windows they never fixed, left the key lock box attached to the porch (looks classy there, thanks...).

Tons of issues fell on deaf ears if they didn't involve purchasing more materials via Alair (markup$$$), this is one of my biggest complaints. ie: moving a light switch to a more functional location. He also made me figure out which transition piece (between tile and hardwood) to use, and go buy it. Transition pieces are like $30 for the good brand (read: very little mark up opportunity for him). Unfortunately we didn't know there was a good kind and a mediocre brand. He told me to go to Home Depot where I purchased a silver piece of metal for the transition because that's the only finish they has in the length we needed - his solution? If you want a black one to match the tile we'll spray paint it. Terrible solution that's now obviously peeling off. If I'm doing all of the legwork the least he could have done was give me a heads up about the good transition pieces that come in a million and one colours and finishes. I hired a contractor, not a middle-man to sell me a mark-up on materials. When we confronted him he played the victim. We were thrilled pay him and get him out of our house. Plays the nice experienced contractor well. Has a nice youthful grandpa quality.

Family Room and Entrance Reno

We recently hired Brian Fletcher of Alair Homes to add a year around sunroom/family room to our home, replacing a small unusable two season solarium.
From the very first meeting there were many things that set Brian apart from the other contractors (we met with several). Specifically, Brian’s ideas and suggestions on how to integrate the new addition to ensure it flowed as part of the home was key. Not only did he have great ideas on the new room (i.e. extending the roof line to maximize the height of the ceiling) he also came up with a design that addressed several other areas of our older home that improved the functionality. So not only did we end up with a beautiful new family room, he created a new entrance way providing far more room, opened-up the kitchen and changed the entrance to the main floor bathroom that was heretofore the bain of my existence as it previously opened into the kitchen.
We couldn’t be more pleased with the quality of workmanship as well as the professionalism. Mike our project manager was also excellent, always polite and conscientious. The sub trades were top notch in their field and any minor issues were dealt with promptly and without compromise.
We highly recommend Brian and his team as they are second to none.

Home Reno

We did a full renovation of a house in Riverdale that finished in January of 2014. Brian and Sharon were apart of the project from start to finish. They helped with architectural drawings, permits, demolition, sourcing and organization of the entire process. They did a thorough and detailed quotation and service schedule which was updated on a regular basis. The overall quality and workmanship was excellent and follow up support has also been excellent for any questions or problems we may have encountered!

Main floor renovation including kitchen

In the summer of 2014, Brian T Fletcher Construction renovated our entire main floor. The renovation included a full redesign of our kitchen, the removal of a hallway running through our main floor, the removal of our back exterior wall to install floor to ceiling glass windows and sliding door, a fully rebuilt fireplace, creation of a closet, built in shelves and custom crafted railing and bannister to match our existing one.

We had never undergone a renovation of this scale, however through Brian's guidance we were made to feel very comfortable with all phases of the project. Brian is very professional in his approach, not only with us, but all other parties involved, including his own staff. He is knowledgeable, prompt, courteous, enthusiastic, and very experienced. He also added enormous value to the project through his solution-oriented approach and by pro-actively providing recommendations while remaining conscientious of our budget. After each meeting, Brian or Sharon sent minutes which made us very comfortable in our understanding of where the project was each week. When some errors were made by the kitchen subcontractors Renovantage, Brian made us his priority and was our advocate to make everything right.

His staff are hard-working, skilled and very friendly - even our neighbours commented on what polite, hard workers we had. Considering the fact that we spent a lot of time together during the course of the renovation, we always found them to be conscientious of our private life and they left their daily work site in clean condition.

We were very happy with their work, have already recommended them to others, and will use Brian and his team again for renovations in the future.
