My microwave stopped heating. I called Commonwealth Appliance Service Ltd and asked about their services. They said they would send a diagnostic technician out to determine what was wrong with our microwave, and that the cost would be $70 for the diagnostic, but that this fee would be applied towards the repair if we decided to go ahead with it.
The technician, Rohar, determined it was the magnetron that needed replaced, and that it would probably be expensive. He said he would call with an estimate. We paid him $70 plus tax.
The next day Rohar called and quoted a price for repair that was equal to the original value of the microwave. I asked if this price included the $70 diagnostic fee discount. He said they don't do that, the diagnostic fee was for the diagnostic. I said the reason I agreed to the diagnostic was because I was told that $70 would go towards repairs. He disagreed with me. He asked his supervisor, and the supervisor allowed him to apply a 15 minute labour discount. I said that that was not sufficient, told them to re-train their telephone personel (which he said was impossible...?), and hung up.
The BBB refuses to get involved, because they said the cost of the diagnostic was $70, and that's what they charged. But they were dishonest about their practices, and refused to budge when I called them on it.
For shame Commonwealth Appliance Services! Terrible customer "service".
