Avoid GEEK SQUAD!!!

I purchased my laptop from Best Buy and have been talked into buying full warranty coverage for 3 years with Geek Squad for extra ~150$. The screen on the laptop died in about a year and a half and I brought it to BustBuy - Geek Squad service desk expecting free warranty service. The young fellow, who presented himself as a service manager, started inspecting the problem by looking at the bottom panel of the laptop and even before plugging in and powering on the laptop to investigate the actual issue declared that some of the screws on the bottom were missing, the laptop has been tampered and all the services are chargeable since now. As I am the only user of the laptop, I definitely know that I never opened the laptop - what would be the point, when I paid for 3 year full coverage? The screws by the hinges loosened and got lost because of the pure design of the chassis of the laptop as they constant stress when the screen is being opened and closed. When after some quarrel with the manager, I refused to go with any paid repairs, they had an intention to charge me the diagnostic fee - that was overall rip off. As a result I did not pay any fees, lost the remaining 1.5 years of my "full coverage" and was lucky to grab my laptop and leave the store.
Result: being 20+ years of computer professional, I purchased a new screen for the laptop ($70 including shipment), replaced it, picked the missing screws from my pile of surplus equipment at home, and fixed it myself. Everything works just fine, beside the fact that I have to check and re-tighten the screws by the hinges as they become loose from time to time...
Conclusion: that was my last purchase from BestBuy - will never ever in my life be buying anything from them. Geek Squad is a dead company for me - I'll never deal with them in any context and will definitely recommend anybody I have a chance NOT TO DEAL with them.

Geek squad

I purchased Geek Squad computer insurance. This was based largely on the fact that I was told that if the computer broke it would be replaced, no questions asked. Been paying into the insurance for about a year and a half.

My computer broke (it simply wouldn't turn on). They attemtped to fix the computer in house. However, the issue reemerged less than one week later. As such, GeekSquad sent the computer away to be fixed. I don't hear from GeekSquad for over 2 months (they claim to have contacted me, but I never received a phone call or e-mail).

At this point, I go to pick up my computer. However, the issue remains; the computer won't turn on. They claim to have tested to computer at the compound and in house, yet the computer won't turn on. The computer has had the same problem twice, and they have failed to fix the problem both times.

At this point, rather than admit that the computer is broken and replace it (given my insurance and their guarantees, this seems reasonable), they send the computer away yet again. Upon complaining to the manager, he tells me that I should simply "cancel the insurance then".

Brutal service. I don't think that the employees are inherently bad, but the service that their organizations enables them to provide is horrible.

Phone

I have never actually had to deal with a company that has no process or procedures. They had tried to ship the phone and apparently it was the wrong address (it really was not) . After 8 Plus weeks (lost count) we are still dealing with them. Requested for a manager to call me back , after 10 days still waiting. How unorganized are you guys ? need to change your customer service manager ASAP !

Ridiculous !

I bought an iPhone 5 1.5 years ago and got sucked in to buy the Geek Squad warranty at $14.95.... In June 2016 Istarted having issues with my phone, I contacted Qeek Squad to get a replacement phone. I had to put $565 on my credit card to ensure I was sending my phone back. It took one month to get the replacement phone, and that was after we called 3 times to enquirer where was my phone. The phone they sent me was a refurbished phone, which had issues, can't connect the bluetooth to my vehicle and the microphone doesn't work. We contacted them back, they want an other $565 to sent me an other one + they also need a credit card on file just in case the phone I gave to sent back get damaged.

Took them 5 days to called us back after we requested that a manager contact us, they told us will be contacted within 36 hrs ! And it didn't do nothing.

Stay away from geek squad, they only want your $14.95 a month !

Cellphone protection

I purchased an iPhone and signed up for geeksquad protection instead of Applecare as (at the time) of purchase, I pay 15/mo. It has been a complete NIGHTMARE since day one. Not only have they double billed me for 5 months which I have yet to receive back (nightmare in itself), now that i want to utilize the insurance as the phone is broken, the insurance changed the policy and on top of the 15/mo, but there is a 100 deductible. Although there is a Geeksquad location half hour away, they will not help you, look at the phone or fix/replace it AS promised when i bought the insurance (whole reason i chose this insurance over Applecare was the no hassle gaurantee), the Customer Service ppl were nice, but when they transferred me to the 'claims' dept, the rep named 'justin' was very rude, would not let me talk to anyone else and terminated the call. I don't understand how they can justify changing your policy to begin with, having an outlet with a rep who is not allowed to help you, having very rude telephone claims reps (bad customer service), and having to wait weeks for a working phone when they said it would take 3-5 days to send you a phone :-{ I would not recommend purchasing Geeksquad to anybody. Applecare is not only cheaper, they stand behind their insurance.

DON'T BUY SERVICE PLANS! Total rip off.

My Acer Desktop wouldn't boot nor it will let me go into BIOS to change the booting sequence. All work got stuck.

I had to go to Best Buy's Geek Squad as I had purchased 4 years warranty on the system and it was still good till 2017.

They took two weeks and called me to pick up. After all delivery papers were done, I just asked him to run it for once for my satisfaction.

It didn't boot and it was the same way as I had left with them two weeks ago. The service letter said they replaced the hard drive and tested it for 4 hours.

I am totally disappointed. Now another week has passed and the system still hasn't been delivered to their service location.

I am angry as hell. DON'T BUY SERVICE PLANS.

Call Centre

Whenever you call customer service, it is the longest wait time you will ever experience.

I tried chatting with them to get general information but they would redirect you to contact the number.

I pay $13 month for this but service isn't worth it.

Geek Squad-Laptop Repair-DO NOT USE THE GEEK SQUAD

I really want to give them negative stars, this will not let me post without giving them at least one star. I would love to give them a -(that's minus)5 Starts -Can I give a review of the Geek Squad and Best Buy any less. I brought my laptop there about 3 months ago to have my keyboard replaced. Paid them $150 upfront. I showed up three weeks later to see if it was complete. One of their service reps tell me that they called my cellphone 3x and they told me what the problem was with my keyboard. Well, i showed him my cellphone with no messages and a log without any of their numbers. He straight out was dishonest to me, repeatedly. He then wanted another $100 from me because he said they had diagnosed the problem as a keyboard issue(which i already knew and had paid for 3 weeks prior). More dishonesty and absolute frustration. After he finally agreed that the Geek Squad was wrong and would repair it for the original $150 I paid for it. I show up a month later as i never got a call saying that it was complete. And don't ever try to call to Best Buy or the Geek Squad because unless you want to wait 30 minutes, you will never get through on the telephone. I go into the place and they need to do something else on the computer. More frustration! They tell me that they will ship my laptop to me once their done with my laptop in a couple of days. The Geek Squad guy double checked my address and i left the store again! One more month later i call them to see what happened. The girl on the line tells me they shipped it and Canada Post returned it to them. Well another unbelievable untruth, we all know that Canada Post leaves notices if they cant deliver it. I asked for a tracking number and they couldn't give me one. Its now one more month and I decided to spend the half hour getting through to someone. I get through and finally speak with someone who tells me that it was shipped by their courier who they use ALL OF THE TIME which is UPS(shock not Canada Post like the last untruth i heard from the Geek Squad). It was shipped on March 16, 2016 and returned unknown address. I tell the person that i need to speak to a manager. After another 15 minutes waiting on the phone I get to speak with Joey. I tell him that i need for one of his guys to now personally deliver my laptop to me. He double checks for the 10th time that they have my address correct(which they have always had correct) and says he will call me back later today to setup a good time to have one of his guys come by on Monday April 18, 2016. Well...we will see if Joey can finally get my laptop to me. My experience with the Geek Squad and Best Buy on Fairway Road in Kitchener Ontario has been horrendous to say the least! If anyone else finds themselves in a similar fashion with this store I can only suggest you call them and demand to speak with the store manager. DO NOT USE THE GEEK SQUAD!
