move from Alliston, ON to Baddeck NS
In November, 2013 I moved from Ontario to Nova Scotia. Earlier, I obtained a quote for my move of $6000. The actual cost was $18000, 3 times the quote. Great Canadian Van LInes comment was "it was just an estimate". The crew did not use runners and tracked mud all over the carpets I had installed 6 months earlier. The truck was not big enough, so an number of items, including my son's bed, did not come until nearly 2 months later. I had a plastic container with my late husband's original water colour paintings. They dumped them in a cardboard box, put a laundry basket on top of them, charged me for the box and left the plastic box behind. Many of them were damaged and are not replaceable. They did arrive on time, but other than that, everything was a disaster. I put in a complaint to Better Business Bureau but their only comment was that the man who did the estimate was not their employee.
- Approximate cost of services:
- $18,000.00
- What could this company do to improve their services?
- Use relabel people to do their estimates.
- Any advice to offer fellow homeowners facing a similar project?
- Get an agreement in writing that the actual cost would be only 10% over the estimate or use U-Haul.
