Driveway and Interlock

They did our driveway and interlock bricks around it in west rouge. Happy with the work, and the crew was professional. Has lasted the last 10 years with no problems.

Northland Paving- excellent as expected

It was due! 45 year old driveway had ruts and had sunk a couple inches from the lip of the garage concrete slab. The quest for a paving company began and ended with Northland. A call to the office and Sean was out the following Saturday, punctual, spot on 9am as arranged. Costing, process, price explained and contract signed there on the spot. I have seen Northland's work in the neighbourhood and many reviews have them competitive in price, or slightly above. I am good with supporting a local business. Excavation was done, a new base compacted, and let sit for 3 weeks. Watching the paving job was watching a well choreographed ballet. The foreman came to the door and asked us to open the garage and for the use of the hose at the side of the house. All rugged hard working guys but very friendly and polite crew. We watched as ever person on the crew performed a task. The asphalt went down quickly and as it was still warm out we let it sit a 5 days, and watered it a number of times to draw the heat out and let it settle. That 2 inch gap at the garage is now gone, so instead of hitting a "speed bump" going in we "glide" into the garage.

Thank you for your kind words! We are happy that you are pleased with the results. I am printing a copy of your crew and posting it where the paving crew can read. It's nice to reminded that you are appreciated and it helps boost morale!

interlock walkway and asphalt driveway

I had my interlock walkway and asphalt driveway done recently. Fabulous!
I’m happy to say dealing with Northland was a pleasant experience from first call to project completion.
All crews were polite, worked hard and diligently. Sheila coordinated everything to make sure all was done properly. Giorgio not only provided a beautiful walkway design, he also chose nice colours for us that complemented our house, and made sure all leftover bricks were picked up afterwards.
All my family members are very satisfied; we love our beautiful walkway most!
A neighbor saw the work and now he wants to do his driveway with Northland. I assured him that Northland would not disappoint. They are professional, efficient and pleasant to work with!

Driveway, garden wall and porch

Working with Giorgio and his team was an amazing experience . Thank you for giving our home a fresh and contemporary update for the front porch and driveway. The new garden wall utilizes the space well! We are so pleased with the finished product and the time and attention to detail.

Driveway Paving

I had them re-pave my driveway some years ago. I didn't write a review then because I only noticed the problem as time went along. They were very efficient but, unfortunately, they didn't grade one side of my double driveway properly. There's a raised area a few feet in front of the second garage - and it hasn't settled or lowered at all (as I thought it might, once I noticed it) - so any water in that area (rain or melting snow) runs into the garage instead of down the driveway. The rest of the driveway is okay and water runs to the street. Anyways, it's long past the warranty period so I've had to come up with other solutions until I get it re-done. But it's a nuisance and, every time it rains or snow melts, I'm reminded of it.

Thank you for taking the time to post a review. I wish you would have shared your concerns with us previously and we would have been happy to arrange an inspection of your driveway. This winter in particular has been pretty harsh on most driveways as the temperature fluctuates between cold, mild and freezing. When it rains and the snow melts causing the ground beneath our driveways and walkways to become saturated with water, suddenly we get very cold below zero temperatures causing that water to freeze. When the saturated ground freezes it expands and heaves up the driveway or walkway above. I suspect this is what is happening to your driveway at the moment. Rest assured as the spring thaw completes and the ground has normalized this issue should resolve.

Regrading and repaving my driveway

I had a garage and mudroom built onto my house and unfortunately the contractor did not build them high enough which meant my driveway could not be graded adequately for water drainage. Unfortunately I did not know this was as problematic as it was until my first winter with my new driveway, Needless to say, it heaved in the winter to the point I could not open my door and water pooled in several sections. Georgio from Northland paving spent almost a year brainstorming and problem solving the best solution with me. Northland Paving regraded and asphalted ,y driveway which looks phenomenal. Thank you so much to the crew!!

not happy with the overall customer service!

Job was done well, and are (for the most part) happy with the completed project.

BUT there were issues and we are not happy with the overall customer service! And we were a little surprised that there was no final inspection or "customer satisfaction" call by Northland Paving upon completion as we have had with other companies.

1. Minor damage was done to our door when having work done to our porch which could have resulted in major damage during the first rainfall had we not noticed it. We contacted the sub-contractor directly to see if the issue could be easily rectified. No response. We told Northland Paving about it, they agreed to reimburse us for the piece we had to purchase. Had to argue for more considering the inconvenience of us having to go out purchase the piece, install the piece etc. Apparently OUR time was only worth $5. When we call the office to continue talks re: reparation, there is never a manager available and no call backs. Requests for call back via email have also not been responded to.

2. The sub-contractors van leaked oil (or some other liquid) all over our driveway. He also left cigarette butts and garbage on our driveway, lawn and in our garden. There was NO clean-up on completion.

3. The sub-contractor decided to leave our bottom stair to do at another time considering the stair had to be re-poured. Because it was done at a different time than the rest of the project, the grout lines are noticeably darker than the rest of the project. Yes, it was commented on by a visitors.

4. Having watched the process unfold I find it was Over-priced. Quoting was done via square footage. When talking with the sales guy he talked about how long the process would take, the number of days and how labour intensive it was. Most of the time is spent on drying and it did not take nearly as long as they said. I feel they misrepresented the process to justify the price OR they have an extremely high markup.

5. Lastly, office staff was very pushy re: payment. We had told them that we would be on vacation when the job was completed and would not be paying until we returned and saw the final result. Arrived home on the Sunday to find numerous messages regarding payment starting the day after completion (Thursday). Even when we mentioned the issue of the damage all they wanted to know was how and when they would be paid -- even though we were still trying to negotiate more money for the inconvenience of the damages. We paid it (in less than a week after completion) and the calls have stopped including any correspondence regarding the damages.

In response to Northland’s comments:

…and still no call back as requested. I would think if the company cared about our customer satisfaction they would have given us a call. I hope we have no issues with the concrete refacing because I doubt we will hear back from the company if we do.

Yes, we are happy overall since it looks better than it did BUT there were/are issues which was why we asked to have someone call us since the collections department said that they don’t deal with customer issues.

Also, we understand WHY our door was modified but we were at home at the time, the stripping could have easily been given to us. Instead 1.5 hours of OUR time was spent to fix the issue introduced. Travel time, time spent looking for the correct piece for our door, as well as installing the new piece as new ones did not match up to the old one etc. it was NOT a straightforward installation. $5 was an insult!!

Lastly, there were 5 messages for payment left within 3 days!!!

Hi CS,
I am very happy to hear that you are pleased with the completed project!
That is what we strive for and at the end of the day, we are pleased we met that goal! Our collections department did call you for payment as we normally do when the project is complete (they were unaware you were away, and they left you 2 messages). When you spoke with our collections department you did say how much you loved the job and that you were so satisfied. You also said, “he did a great job”!
In construction we need to understand that sometimes access may impede our (or any other trades) ability to do a great job. For example, grass, shrubs and flowers may be in the way of an excavation for basement waterproofing. In this case the weather stripping on the bottom of your door was in the way of the concrete resurfacing and needed to be removed to properly install the materials. Had we left it on, the project would have been compromised and you would have had a reason to complain.
We felt we were fair in covering the cost of the replacement weather stripping.
