bathroom renovation - 1 year later

Last year Rona renovated my master bathroom. Martin Piehl was the contractor. This July the shower tower started to leak. Martin came one morning, took the tower apart, found the problem, went to Rona and got a replacement and installed it all within 2 1/2 hours. The shower tower was still under warranty. Where else could I have received such quick service? From the time of initial complaint to finish was about 24 hours;

chain

My bf was in the market for some chain to secure his kettlebells from theft at the gym where he teaches. He settled instead on some wire rope which was both cheaper and less easily cut by thieves. Great idea right? Sort of.

We found out firsthand just how tough that stuff is and proceeded to spend the next 20 minutes trying to cut through it with a small pair of clippers handed to us by the woman working in the department. She didn't know how to cut it, stated they had nothing else to cut it with anyway and was none too professional or helpful in this process. We asked if they had a saw, and she said no. Sure, it was a pain in the butt, but if a store is selling the product, they should probably have the tools with which to deal with it. Not her fault but silly nonetheless.

When asked about crimping the ends of the wire rope, she stated flatly we need a crimping tool and they are expensive, and she did not confirm that we could have it crimped at the store. Again, way to be prepared, Rona.

Fortunately, a man in the department was kind enough to help us out with the crimping and spent a painful half hour doing so. Though it took some prompting on my bf's part to consider using a saw which hastened this painful process exponentially. Hmm... They DID have a saw, after all.

An hour later, we were about to pay. The girl at the till was seemingly clueless as to what to ring in, and could not for the life of her sort out what we were trying to purchase. Perhaps we weren't communicating clearly, but it didn't seem like rocket science to ring in one piece of wire rope with 2 end crimpers. In fact, I felt like we were dealing with Snooky.

Landscaping

The people at Rona seem to be only specialized in certain areas. The fellow I was talking to about landscaping was not very helpful. Seems like their prices are also slightly higher than other major reno stores.

Window Screens

Rona was only somewhat helpful in finding the items necessary to make and install window and sliding glass door screens. Their staff should be a little more knowledgeable about where their products are located in the store.

home repair

I wanted to renovate my home so i've been visiting a bunch of places. Homedepot, Rona, and some others. I found that Rona had alot of the stuff I needed and the sales associates there were pretty helpful. They knew where things were and I was able to get help when i needed it. One downside is that if you try to find things yourself it can be a bit confusion but other than that, i woudl recommend this place to any of my friends. Not a bad shop at all.

purchased paint

I purchased 2 cans of CIL paint, brought it home and began to paint my walls. I painted several coats and still had difficulty achieving a good finish on the walls. I took it back to the store to complain and found out that it needed to have a tinted primer first. Apparently it showed on their computer that it had to have a primer. The mixer missed the highlighted instruction and they gave me a bad time when I tried to complain.

Paint Department

The paint mixer was not knowledgeable and did not tell us to use deep base primer even though the computer flashed it on the screen which we found out about on the second visit. Instead they told us to paint 10 coats.
