Our roof was completely re-shingled November 18, 2011. Since then, we have had 2 instances where a large section of shingles need to be replaced. The first time Tops did the work (three months after) and charged us, indicating that the type of repair was a materials issue and not becasue of workmanship or installation. Our most recent issue, we had another company inspect the roof and make the repair after being told by Brian over the phone to find another company. This inspection showed poor installation of the new shingles, poor repair work for the first time Tops fixed it, and overall poor quality of materials inlcuding the workmanship, eventhough we were led to believe we were receiving upgraded shingles and underlay. Brian's response below does not address the factd that we had another company inspect the roof and indicate that the installation was not done appropriately.
- Approximate cost of services:
- $11,000.00
- What could this company do to improve their services?
- This company should realize that when poor quality work is completed, then the word will get out.
- Any advice to offer fellow homeowners facing a similar project?
- They should ensure that they should actually call a few references that are a few years old to determine how good of a job and what the customer service is like for maintainin the roof after that. Definitely consider using somene other than Tops Roofing.

Sorry to hear Bob,
However, we do not warrant shingles against wind damage. This falls under the manufacturers HIGH WIND portion of the materials warranty, were as they would reimburse you for service or repair costs. Further, shingles installed in November, typically will not seal until the following year. This was explained to you. Bob, you chose the install date, not I.
I understand you lost a few shingles in the recent high wind storm, and you argued again with me over the cost to repair. Again it was explained to you that this was the manufacturers responsibility, not mine & if you were not happy with our price or service, as a consumer you have the option to go elsewhere.
As for the shingles Bob, we did not lead you to believe anything, but instead, did provide you with a price quote inclusive of shingle options & all related literature pertaining to shingles, underlay & accessory items. I can only provide you with information Bob, it is up to you to read it, understand it, ask the questions & make an informed choice. I can tell you though, that we are no longer using this manufacturer due to problems with their shingles sealing & resulting blow offs in high wind. Our manufacturer of choice is now GAF & in the last wind storm, we had zero blow offs with their product. I would strongly advise, however, that you make a claim against IKO under their high wind warranty & have them reimburse you for any service .
