In 2003, Doug and his crew turned a nondescript brown lawn with a few trees and junipers into an outstanding natural oasis including a dry stream, small pond, front courtyard, and a water wise garden. It looks great in all seasons. There are distinct sections of the garden including an alpine garden, English stye garden, and a courtyard oasis. Doug created a composition using good design principles of harmony, dominance, repetition, rhythm, cohesion, movement, contrast, and scale. The wonderful sandstone boulders are indigenous to Calgary and connect beautifully with the surrounding area. The garden has created a sense of community and enjoyment for ourselves and others. Many of our neighbours thanked us for creating a neighbourhood garden for everyone to enjoy. People who are passing by either on foot or driving often stop to view the garden and to complement the work of Doug and his crew. The cost estimates were accurate and the work was completed in a timely fashion. Doug was easy to work with and maintains a high sense of integrity and genuine excitement about his work.
