Painful plugged drain but they did it...
Scope:
Plugged kitchen drain located underneath our basement slab. I used my drill mounted auger for about an hour with no success. I suspect it was just going through the mass of grease and out again. So we tried Drano Max Gel, which is supposed to be great for standing water clogs and after several hours, nothing. I even tried auguring with the Draino sitting in there and nothing. First time I've ever had to do this for a plugged drain but we had to call the plumber…
Pros:
• Called at 10:30 am, arrived on site by 1:00, very prompt.
• Courteous and helpful. My wife was home but he answered everything and after 45 minutes using his power auger, was wondering what heck was going on.
• At the hour mark he called a buddy for help who recommended a hot water push (seal up the cleanout, fill the pipe with hot water and let the gravity push it out) which worked given how much he must have loosened it.
• Good fees, cheaper than other estimates we received over the phone, given the time spent and the promptness of the appointment.
Cons:
• Splashed abut too much water around when cleaning things out but I likely would have done the same given how difficult the job was.
• Their no fault agreement seems pretty weird. If the auger gets stuck, we have to pay to break up the concrete slab to get it out. Typically, I would expect the contractor's insurance to cover problems like this, not ours.
I would hire them again given this brief experience.
