Ontario Shake N'tile

By way of introduction, allow me to say that my wife and I joined the plethora of "deceived" home owners concerning the reliability of asphalt roof shingles.  In 2006 we had a new roof installed by a reputable company and were convinced to purchase a 25 year roofing shingle.  By June of 2016, the alleged 25 year shingles were deteriorating, curling and pitting.  Consequently, my wife and I decided to investigate the feasibility and cost of having a metal roofing system installed.

We concluded that the best company to meet our specific needs was "Ontario Shake N Tlle".  We were convinced the roofing system was the best for the following reasons:

     a.    The Kassel and Irons steel shingles used by Ontario Shake N Tiles were, in our opinion, very well engineered and were available in a good assortment of colours.

    b. The warranty offered by the company is again, in our opinion, the best on the market. Fifty years on material and workmanship and is transferable to new home owners in the event we sell our property.

The company met their promised “Installation” time frame (within 6 weeks of contract award). The installation team performance was very professional and the calibre of work was sterling. The team leader was open to discussing our unique requirements and we benefited from his vast experience. Overall, the installation was very good and problem free.

After 13 years we where in need of a new roof for the second time in as many years.
We wanted steel but something with the look of the existing asphalt single.
KasselWood PVDF new cedar permanent metal roof was perfect.

Rock and his brother have 11 years of experience.( On the hottest 3 days of June)( 40 on the roof.) They knew how to pace themselves with no wasted effort and no short cuts.
Attention to detail was evident .Jean Luc did ongoing cleanup each time after he carried bundles of Steel up the latter.
No drinking ,no excessive chatter and no loud music.

Nice people make life easier when you are making this $ level of investment.
As to cost,we felt that a asphalt roof would cost 10,000,a traditional steel roof 20,000 .
We have Quality and what we want for 32,000.

The entire process was wonderful....starting with the salesman, including the man who delivered the roofing and the crew that installed everything were considerate, kind, professional in every way. They did the roof and garage in the new cedar and the dormers in the regular cedar....it looks real....

Our asphalt roof shingles rated for 30 years lasted only 12 years, and the vendor offered minimal compensation to replace it with something comparable. We decided to get out of the endless roof replacement cycle, and investigate a more permanent roofing solution. We did extensive research into (a) the economics – metal roofs can cost about 3 times as much but last about 5 times as long, and (b) the best products and installers on the market. We attended the Toronto Home Show, met with vendors at our home, and did lots of Google searches to look for “hidden” gotchas.

We settled on Ontario Shake N’ Tile and have been very happy with the product and its installation. The entire installation for our relatively large roof was done in about 1.5 days by a very experienced crew of about 8 that operated well as a team. When a communication mixup occurred (these things happen), Sales / Management stepped in quickly to make things right – the true sign of an honourable vendor. The finished product looks great – a year later and everything is in perfect condition. Contrary to popular belief, rainfall is no noisier than it was on a shingle roof. Just make sure you order enough snow guards around the perimeter, so that you don't have large sheets of snow crashing to the ground.

In the midst of renovating our newly purchased home, we discovered a bad leak in our roof. Our hopes of simply fixing it were dashed when we were told the 35 year old metal roof had been affixed in parts with nails just smashed through the metal. Any part of the roof could be contributing to the leak.

We made the decision to replace the roof with a product that would last for a very long time and have the right architectural look for our nearly 200 year old stone house.

After receiving many quotes, and with winter fast approaching, we made the decision to go with Ontario Shake and Tile. The Kasselwood metal shingles are a great product backed by a top of the line warranty.

Sal and his crew were incredible. They stripped the old metal roof off, plus at least 4 layers of asphalt shingles. When problems were found with the now exposed roof framing and soffits, Sal came up with a very affordable solution and they finished the roof very quickly. They returned the following day to thoroughly clean the debris from around the house.

The new roof looks fantastic and my wife and I couldn't be happier that we chose Ontario Shake and Tile.

Replacing your house roof is not an inexpensive or easy decision, so we hope this review will help anyone trying to find a quality product and/or qualified contractor to do this job.

Our house roof was just recently installed, after interviewing a few contractors, assessing roofing materials in the market and travelling around the city to evaluate contractors work, we decided to go ahead and install a metal roof with Ontario Shake N’ Tile. We are very pleased with our decision, our new “weathered cedar metal roof “looks amazing and the experience dealing with the company representatives was very satisfying. The crew of installers managed by Nick did an incredible work, they were extremely accommodating and very professional. Special thanks to Mitch for all the information provided and for his prompt response every time he was contacted.

An IB membrane was also installed on our flat roof garage, job very well done as well.

Had Kasselwood Metal Roofing installed on our home here in Thunder Bay, ON....have to say it is the best improvement that we have made to our home yet! Just went through a torrential downpour and never heard a drop on the roof and better yet no more leaks! The crew that came up were beyond polite and professional! They started at about 4pm Sat and worked until dark. They returned Sun and by noon were completely done and cleaned up. They actually left our property neater then before they got here! We have had so many people drive by and walk by to admire the roof....some have told us that it is hard to believe that it is a metal roof. Would highly recommend this company and product to anyone!

I’m eager to give praise where it’s warranted but in this case, I can’t share the same enthusiasm for Ontario Shake N’ Tile as the other reviews posted here. There’s nothing worse than bad communication to put off a customer. When I ordered my new Kasselwood roof through Mitch Myers I was given an estimated start and completion date. The materials arrived a week before the original start date and sat in my driveway for 4 weeks before the job got started. Two weeks after the job was suppose to be done I contacted Mitch to get a new start date. I have to say that I was slightly put off with getting a call back asking that I call their office to speak to the site manager Sal. I believe good customer service would have been achieved if I didn’t have to make the extra call.
Sal emailed me on July 1st to tell me that the crew would be starting the next day. Disappoint #2, they didn’t show until the 3rd. At the end of the first day I had to remind them that I had asked that the “no longer used chimney” be brought down to the roof line. The next day when the chimney was lowered the crew wasn’t aware of what they were suppose to do to cap it, the site manager wasn’t present for the rest of the install, which lasted 5 days. As you can see from the photos, this isn’t a big roof! In the end, the site crew manufactured a metal cap for the chimney. It really wasn’t what I expected from the amount of money I was paying. When Sal called the following week to ask about how I like the roof, I indicated that the roof looked great but that I wanted him to come out to look at the chimney cap. We arranged to meet the following Wednesday morning. I spent the entire morning waiting for him and he never showed and never called. I called the office later in the day to complain, they couldn’t get a hold of Sal. I emailed a photo of the cap from what I could see of it and have yet to hear back.

The install crew was a little rough around the edges but from what I could tell, they were competent and they cleaned up the site each evening. The roof does look great, I’m happy with going with Kasselwood but I can’t give full marks to Ontario Shake N’ Tile for their customer service. It was lacking.
