We contracted with Nick to completely renovate our basement rec room turning it into a games room/home pub. I found Footprint construction on Homestars and called them because of the positive reviews on the website.

If you read the reviews I did, you will pick up on two common notes regarding Footprint construction. The first is that they finish what they start, attending the job per schedule and consistently until completion. This was absolutely true in my case. It starts with them showing up for the first appointment to check out the job and delivering a quote on a timely basis.

The second common thread is reference to their assistance in the design. I did not think I needed this when I first called them as I had pretty specific plans for my renovation drawn up. However, from the first meeting when Nick started asking questions about some of the details of the finishes I learned I needed a lot of help.

When he returned to present the quotation he also came with a mock-up of the wainscot design almost to full scale. His preparation at the quoting stage really impressed me. Ironically we rejected the design for the wainscoting, gave him some feedback and he altered the design to what you now see in my basement. Custom designed and executed by Nick Van Egmond. This was just the beginning. He and Trevor made so many other design suggestions that really make the finished product stand out.

The execution of the trim work was excellent. Nick did a lot of this himself and he truly is a master carpenter.

The greatest strength that Nick brings to the table is his communication skills. This is reflected in his ability to draw out your desires into a finished design both literally and figuratively. It is also reflected in the daily understanding of where he and his crew will be, what they are scheduled to do and then, an end of the day progress report. I always knew where I stood regarding the progress of the job and what to expect to be done on a daily basis.

Nick is also accountable for his trades. You should expect this from a general contractor but Nick delivers. He was trying out a new painter that did not work out very well but Nick ensured the finished product was up to his high standards. This is important. Trades can disappoint, people make mistakes, but the General Contractor is there to resolve any issues and "make it right" as Mike Holmes would say and Nick delivers on that promise.

I ended up with a lot more custom elements in my basement renovation than I ever expected. It is a unique product and I am very proud of the result. Thanks to Nick, Trevor, their staff and team of subcontractors. I hope to work with them again.

Over time frost took its toll on my home, the wooden deck and pathway at the front of my house, heaved up causing severe cracking in the garage wall and brickwork. It had to be dug up all around and insulated, then filled back in, the pathway and patio completely relaid and brickwork repaired. I felt it was going to be a nightmare and was so stressed with the thought of all that work not to mention the mess! Nick and Trev and the crew eased my stress levels, they were quick and professional and really helpful and cleaned up at every step of the process. Even my neighbors commented on how hard they worked. The outcome was excellent, my house has had a facelift! Thanks again gang, a job well done. I will certainly recommend your services again and again.

I hired Footprint to build an arbour in front of the intake and exhaust pipes for a high efficient furance and a tankless water heater in order to hide the pipes since they were an eye sore. The arbor built for me far exceeded my expectation. It was also impressive to see that the team from Foorptint were passion at what they did and took pride in what they build. Friends and neighbours who have taken a look at the arbor all comment and on the high level of craftsmanship.

I preface my comments by stating that I didn't have the pleasure of hiring Nick and his crew to finish my basement. The unfortunate economic downturn coupled with an expectant special needs child, unfortunately, made cost a sudden high priority over anything else. Nick's bid was a bit beyond what I was hoping to pay in my situation but, otherwise, well within reason.

I must commend Nick for his most excellent pre-sales consultation. Nick arrived on time to assess the basement and was extremely courteous and professional. I was shown photos of his work (which was excellent) and his devotion of time and knowledge to discussing the basement was somewhat shocking in light of the "quick and dirty" service that pervades society today.

When Nick was unable to send me a final quote on the exact day he initially specified due to unforeseen circumstances, he was courteous enough to call me up to inform me and to ask whether it would be acceptable. Other contractors that I contacted would leave me waiting with no follow-up until I initiated contact.

In a series of email exchanges with Nick, he offered the most professional advice out of all contractors I solicited on how to finish the basement. Even when I made it clear that I likely wasn't able to hire him (which I really did want to do), he was still willing to render advice. I believe this demonstrates his true passion to provide utmost service to everyone. While I wasn't fortunate enough to have Nick and his crew finish our basement, I'm absolutely confident that his services rank among the upper echelon of the industry. My experience in dealing with Nick proved to me that Google doesn't always yield the best results for the end consumer and I'm glad that I found Nick and his company here on HomeStars. Clearly, Footprint Construction is worthy of the high ratings it has received thus far.

I wish to thank Trevor and Nick once again on the outstanding work and overall experience on my basement renovation and spectaculuar deck. I had about 4 contractor's quote for my basement and deck, and FootPrint Construction took the most time to meet me and my husband on several occassions, and anserwed all our questions and needs. Their price was about the second highest but we felt they would be the most reliable and professional. Their work is outstanding, and all our freinds and family just love the new deck and spacious basement! Once again thank you Trevor,Nick and Scott for all your work and suggestions

I was referred to Trevor and Nick through a hockey buddy (who is pretty handy at stonework himself) when I mentioned that I needed a shed for storage at the cottage. The guys at Footprint Construction were very helpful right from the designing stage through to completion. I am very happy with the results. I have included a photo of their work.
