All in all our experience with Rene and his team was very good.

The (winter) project involved demolishing the existing 600-700 square foot basement in our 1970 sidesplit and building a 3-piece bathroom, office/bedroom, rec room, pantry, and laundry room. We had potlights installed in all rooms but the pantry, eight doors (including a pocket door and a door to crawlspace), built-in shelving in the pantry and a single flight of stairs. Rene's team also fixed a leak in the basement wall and some damaged concrete in the garage next to the basement.

The quote from Royal Basements was a bit lower than some others we got, but we chose them partly because Rene sketched out a floor plan on the spot during the initial consultation. That allowed us to go through a list of "what ifs?" Some smaller things like standard 5" baseboards and oak stairs helped.

What we appreciated the most about Rene was his flexibility and problem solving. He came up with a number of creative solutions that we think greatly improved the initial design.

We also really liked that they let us keep our washer and dryer in the basement throughout. We were able to resume doing our laundry pretty soon after they started.
