I had a table refinished by TMC Restoration and they did a wonderful job. My recommendation goes out to them for their attention to detail. Its a long process to refinish so I appreciate the phone call, especially about the unanticipated repair and extra cost.
However, we have reduced our original "very satisfied" rating. This is because we have a complaint about the way our table was described or "assessed" (my word) by the original contact person, who came to our home and as soon as he saw the table, told us we had "a Duncan Phyfe" table, which if it were true, would have meant our table was worth a considerable sum of money. We should have been skeptical. We have spent over $3,000 in the expectation that our table was indeed quite valuable. My husband and I spent a lot of time talking with Joe in April, in person, and decided to trust him and his company. We feel we have been misled. There is nothing wrong with the restoration, which has improved the look of the table. However, we rather foolishly depended on his very definite statement that we had a Duncan Phyfe table, and he implied it had a lot of value. We should have expected this ind of exaggeration, and blame ourselves partly for being naive. Still, it does leave a bad feeling about the honesty of your company staff. I do not have any quarrel with the people who did the restoration, although I wonder if Dino also believed the table was very valuable, when in fact, it is not really. I agreed to the extra cost and the repair that Dino carefully described to me on the phone, partly because I felt it was worth it, considering that the table was described by Joe as having some considerable value. All I can say is that I would warn other potential customers not to do what we did, unless money is no object. We are pensioners with a very tight income, and are not happy with the fact that our ignorance about the table was taken advantage of by the company....that's how it feels, in any case. I feel quite sorry and embarrassed about the whole thing, and wish we had not paid so much for the restoration. It's a nice table, yes, but I doubt very much if we will get a decent return on our investment, so we will have to keep it and sadly, it will remind us how stupid we were. You may think that having nice furniture is a good thing, quite apart from its "market value" but when you consider that these are very tough economic times, that many of us have lost about 1/3 of our savings, and that we cannot afford to waste what we have in any way, you may realize how devastating it is to be misguided by someone who we thought was helping us.
