Elite Appliance Service – Toronto

Dishwasher failing to drain. Technician checked and cleared any blockage of drain hose, and also passage from dishwasher to pump itself. Dishwasher continued to fail to drain properly. Technician claimed pump was "weak" and ordered replacement pump WITHOUT removing and inspecting existing pump. Pump eventually installed. I inspected old pump. It was blocked by olive pit lodged crosswise in intake, as well as other debris trapped behind olive pit, before reaching impeller blade. No attempt was ever made to clear blockage and test old pump for being "weak". I believe I may have unnecessarily been sold a new drain pump when all that was required was to clear the old one. My assumption is that the technician was not to blame, and was simply following Elite policy.

Elite service manager claims replacing pump blocked in this way is standard procedure because old pump was stressed and likely to fail.
This makes no sense. Elite were prepared to leave motor if blockage was in drain hose or sump, but not if blockage was in intake tube of pump. Why would location of blockage affect stress on pump? Nevertheless, Elite seem prepared to address my complaint.
