Extremely disappointed in their service and workmanship of Turlough Design Builds contractors Jason and Sean. I hired these contractors to renovate my basement and was happy with the job they did so I asked them to do gut and fully renovate my upstairs bathroom. Gutted in May, we discovered extreme mould, hornets nests and cracks to the outside of the house under the drywall. Once gutted, they disappeared for a month and left everything exposed, after many calls they returned to continue the job but ended up taking three months to insulate and tile a small 4 x 7 foot bathroom. They would show up randomly at approx. 10:30am, take on average 15 smoke breaks and two hour lunches, then leave at 5pm. Finally I had to give them a deadline in order to get the work done. Once the deadline approached at the end of July they rushed the job and did horrible work. I made the mistake of paying them the majority of the money and when it came down to the final finishes they disappeared and made excuses on why they couldn't come back and never finished the job, eventually even stopped answering my calls and emails. The main contractor Jason even got angry when I confronted him on work that was not done properly and that I needed to have fixed. I ended up having to hire another contractor to finish their work and fix the majority of the tile work to make it proper and even legal. In total a bathroom that should of costs $5000 to reno ended up costing me 11,000 in excess materials, labour and took over 7 months to finish. During the process I also discovered that they weren't qualified to do the majority of the work they said they could and had mislead my husband and I. They were friendly guys but their workmanship is very poor and they do not follow up or fix their mistakes. I would never ever work with them again or refer them to anyone I know.
I 100% stand behind everything I have stated above, this was not made to slander anyone but is based on facts. My calls were never returned after repeated attempts to have them come back and finish the job, so I would like to see phone records that they were. I work from home and was there 80% of the time so I was very aware of their work schedule. I have received great feedback on the basement and the materials used in the upstairs bathroom but not the workmanship. I have since paid someone else to retile and fix the bathroom and my cost have exceeded more then 11,000. In all I am happy with the company that fixed my bathroom, their follow up and work ethic. After 7 months the bathroom is finally completed and I will be using them at the end of this month for the renovations in my new investment home. .
- Approximate cost of services:
- $11,000.00
- What could this company do to improve their services?
- Only provide services they are trained to do and better customer service.
- Any advice to offer fellow homeowners facing a similar project?
- Deal with a professional that comes with great references and follows up with their clients
- Company Response
In reading this review i have to come to the conclusion that this is nothing more than an attack on my company that i take very personal.
In reviewing this slanderous attack i take exception to the the following untruths:
As the project did take 3 months to complete not 7 as stated, this was due to the fact that this project had more than tile and insulation,
The ceiling framing, the full electrical including pot lights and the rough in and instalation of a ceiling fan, re-doing the entire plumbing system from new drains and feeds and shutoffs, the building of a custom shower pan, insulating and drywalling of the bathroom, leveling of the floor as there was an inch and half over 4 feet drop off, as well during this process the basement was receiving the finishing touches and most of the house was also painted.
As for this "deadline" i told them that i would have it functional for her birthday, which i did, everybody raved about the bathroom at this time.
The only thing that was not done was the custom glass which was ordered late due to the fact the client did not take my advice as to cover 2/3 of the opening as the ordered glass that only covered half the opening against my opinion.
As for the final bill i told them i was going to charge them $5000.00 for labour plus material, the tiles on the wall and floor were $7 each and the custom mirror was $500.00 and the shower head was $600.00 just give examples of the high end pieces that went into this build and hence the cost which actually came in at under 10,000.
As for these smoke breaks and lunches and start and finish times, they are highly exaggerated as April was not there for most days so how would she know how long my lunches were and what time i left????
How is tile work not legal???
As for not calling or returning calls that is a flat out lie, As i have phone records to prove this fact if there is any question of this
Thank You
Jason
