low ethics. felt like dealing with crooks.
Called a few places, this company looked good on website and were able to send someone within 2 hours. This I liked. Price quoted was $195 plus Tax. Okay, not great price. But reputable company from website. Standard 3/4 HP opener to replace the one I had installed.
Two guys came in truck and got started. Nice people. One lead and one helper. Fast workers. Knew what they were doing. All good.
I made sure to let them know that my garage door opener was not staying where you left it but would come down to close if not latched in with the opener. I wanted to make sure the guys knew about it so no one got hurt.
'okay' was the response. They spent at least an hour and did it right. I really liked the guys working and they were well skilled.
But, the work included tightening my garage spring and checking all the bolts on the garage door. They did put two bolts which were missing. This cost me $55 extra.
Not told at all about the bolt tightening cost or spring adjustment till bill time.
Guess what, if they don't balance the spring, then they won't warranty their work. But this will cost you $55. I had no idea.
I was quite surprised at this and asked why they didn't mention this cost before or at least during the service but just assumed that they could do anything and charge you for it as 'extra'.
The real shock came when I spoke with the main number to explain that companies can't just rack up a bill and charge you at the end without al least informing you about additional costs. I said it was wrong and that I should not have to pay the $55.
But guess what the manager told his service men to do on the phone: 'if customer doesn't pay the $55 then just undo the spring adjustment and void the warranty because the opener will fail'.
Yup. That is what you are dealing with when you call them.
Would you do this to customers if it was your business?
If a warranty will require the spring adjustment, then why is it done quietly and billed on top of the agreed fee? Don't pay? Manager tells workers to undo the balance and void warranty. Can you believe this?
I paid it in the end because I had to. Because they would have made my life hell for $55. Left me feeling very bad. No apology given for everything, just 'undo and void warranty and let fail'.
The $55 is not a big deal. It's nothing. It's the way in which I was spoken to by the service men and then the manager that I can't get over.
You are nothing to these people.
