We required a custom built replacement window for our kitchen due to odd sizing and an unforgiving exterior finish. We called around and spent lots of time on the web searching for a good mix of quality and price.
Waylon came by to do a home estimate and we were very happy with the sales approach. He was informative, answered our questions and was not pushy at all. We reviewed the quote and called a few weeks later to order and Waylon returned for final measurements.
The window was ready on time and available for pickup (I installed the window myself). When we picked it up, we tested the vertical sliding mechanism and heard a metallic pop. One of the springs had dislodged and twisted. We called Gienow and they sent somebody out to make a two minute fix and so far it seems fine. The window itself looks like the frame was used as a workbench as it has many scratches and is marred, however, it will be covered with trim. When paying $550 for a single window though, it would be nice to have it arrive looking brand new, not like it has been slid around the shop floor for a week.
As to the fit, the vertical measurement was a bit sloppy and required having to modify the unforgiving exterior to make the window fit properly. This made installation much more difficult than it should have been.
Overall, the build quality seems okay and the sales and service were quite good. I'm a bit hesitant recommending them outright based on the issues with the beat-up shape of the window and the measurement issues. That being said, I have not dealt with other window manufacturers and I'm sure you could certainly do much worse.
