Kitchen Planning & Renovation review in Ottawa

We highly recommend Oakwood because of the workmanship and the quality of work they had provided for our kitchen renovation. My wife and I are very happy and satisfied with their services and products. The project manager and technicians we dealt with are very polite, dependable and customer-oriented, they essentially had the same goal as ours to complete the renovation on time and on budget and also to meet our expectations. They have warranty on their products, so they promptly addressed the stuff that we were not satisfied. We wouldn’t regret paying a little bit extra to hire Oakwood for their quality, and mostly importantly it was a stress-free renovation overall.

Before hiring Oakwood, we hired another contractor to do our kitchen renovation, but the contractor didn’t complete the renovation as promised. Then we engaged Oakwood to continue the kitchen work, they understood the scope of work and provided professional advices throughout the renovation. Taking on somebody’s unfinished work wasn’t easy, however, Oakwood did an amazing work and did everything correctly. We finally got our dream kitchen! Thank you Oakwood!! A special thanks to Scott Bartels. We are pleasant and fortunate having Scott to renovate our kitchen as he is a very skillful, professional and diligent technician who provides outstanding workmanship to meet our expectations.

Kitchen Planning & Renovation review in Ottawa

It was impressive to visit the Oakwood design centre and meet with the project coordinator. Everything seemed to be well managed and organized from the beginning until the project started.

Yet Oakwood is another company/contractor missing project deadline. The original project duration estimated by the project coordinator was 3 days to complete the job, however, it eventually took 7 days to a stage where the project hadn’t been fully finished due to missing parts and wrong materials ordered by Oakwood. Additional days will be required to finish the outstanding work with the correct parts and materials; it may end up taking 3x of the original estimated time to fully complete the project. If you are considering Oakwood, please be prepared for DELAYS!

The cause of the delays, in my opinion, were mainly due to the project coordinator poorly managed my project by mis-allocating manpower and mis-scheduling. I paid for the project management cost and I would expect the project coordinator would manage my project effectively in order to meet the deadline. However, I would need to advise him that the manpower might not be enough for this type of project and timeline prior to the start of project, then he assigned more staff to work on my project. I’m not a professional in renovation but I need to tell the project coordinator what to do. With the project already been delayed, the project coordinator didn’t assign his staff to work dedicatedly on my project full days to catch up some time, instead the staff worked on my project for half days and worked somewhere else for the other half days. This arrangement even prolonged the project duration.

To be fair, I would like to express some positives about Oakwood. The project I have with them is replacing kitchen cabinet doors, end panels, crown moldings, toe kicks and some cabinets. The quality of the materials are very good and the staff who installed the materials is very professional and diligent. Due to the project delays, I have been dealing with the manager of the project coordinator and she has been very helpful and proactive to my project. Hopefully, with her assistance, the missing parts and right materials could be available soon for installation such that the project could come to an end.
