Amazing Service - I HIGHLY recommend Condo Handyman

I cannot recommend working with Condo Handyman highly enough! This was the smoothest, best run, well-priced and successful renovation Ive ever done (and Ive done about 6 of them over my 35 years as a home owner). Tanya and Bruno are great people who communicate clearly, follow through on their promises, and delivered a quality of work that makes me smile and feel delighted every time I walk through my front door. I couldnt be more delighted with the outcome of the project, or with the quality of service, communication, design, and workmanship with them.

I purchased 2-BR, 2-bath condo in a 20-year-old building and everything was a bit dated, so I looked for someone to help me update it. I had only one month between closing and when I had to move in, so my timeline for doing the renovation work and selecting materials was really short. I met Tanya at the Toronto Home Show and was impressed with how quickly she understood my vision for my new space, my time frames, and the need to project manage things exceptionally well when youre living in a condo, dealing with a board, working with a property manager, and meeting new neighbours.

In less than a month after the project got started, my dog and I were able to move in! In that span of time they gutted and updated both bathrooms with gorgeous tiling, new vanities and fixtures, replaced the flooring and baseboard throughout the unit, repainted my original wooden kitchen cabinets to give it a more fresh and modern look with new hardware and undermount sink, installed new quartz countertop and backsplash (measured the countertop on a Wednesday, and it was installed that Saturday!), installed new lighting throughout, and painted all walls, trim and doors.

Bruno organized the trades needed to get the work done and all the crews were on time, protected the appliances in the unit during demolition, and cleaned up every day. They took steps to protect my front door, the common hallway, and elevator. The property manager even remarked to me on how clean the workers were! As the demolition and reno got started, I stopped by daily to check on their progress and was always impressed by how much work they got done, how well they were taking care of my place in the process, and how personable and friendly they were.

Communication and coordination with Tanya and Bruno could not have been smoother. I was given a thorough scope of work and clear budget to sign off, and they gave me all the documentation and timelines I needed to give the condo board. When I wanted to change the scope or make revisions as we went along, Tanya got me the update right away. Payment schedules, credits to apply or additional items to be approved were given in a timely way so the integrity and communication of Condo Handyman went above and beyond what Ive experienced in previous reno jobs Ive done. It was a complex project, but they gave me all the documentation and made sure I was aware of the impact on budget of any changes in scope I requested. I am also impressed that they stand behind their work with a guarantee.

In all my time working with them, from the intensity of the initial reno through to the last stages of final installation of items and paint touch-ups, they let me know whats happening and when all along the way. At the height of the project I would get a morning call or text from them to let me know the game plan for the day. So many times in work with other contractors, I would be told one trade was coming on one day, and then learning after the fact that it didnt happen and it would delay everything. Condo Handyman really impressed me with how they initiated communication and updates with me. In my previous renovation experiences, I was usually the one having to run after the contractor to find out updates and get information, but with Bruno and Tanya they were the ones calling me, which I really appreciated. They valued my time. They cared about the project just as much as I did.

If a problem of any kind arose onsite, they jumped into action to solve it. For example, the tile supplier made a mistake sent the wrong colour and Tanya noticed it right away when she was on-site with me on the day it was going to be installed in the bathroom. This had the potential to really set us back and delay my move-in, but Condo Handymans team jumped on it and solved it. Tanya immediately sourced another comparable tile which I fell in love with, and Bruno was able to get his tiling crew to adjust their schedules on short notice. We ended up only losing a day instead of what could have been week or more of delay and I was able to move in on time.

The other huge differentiator for me working with Condo Handyman was their help on design. I wanted my condo in the Beaches to feel homey, almost like a cottage with a chill beach vibe, and not like a typical cookie-cutter condo. Tanya totally got my vision right away and was a key design partner and sounding board for me throughout. We would share pictures, fixtures and colours that could work, and wed talk it through. I know what I like when I see it, but I often cant really describe it well, but Tanya got it. She helped me create a space with a unified design aesthetic and her mood boards really helped me to see my dream space come to life. Id shoot her questions or send pictures, and she would get right back to me.

In a few previous home renovations, Ive hired an interior designer to help and often I found they not only charging thousands of dollars for their assistance but were pushing what they wanted or liked or the latest trend, as opposed to drawing out from me what my taste was. It blew my mind that Condo Handyman provided the level of design service they do as part of the budget.

If youre looking to renovate your condo in any way, I would HIGHLY recommend you give Condo Handyman a call. They were an absolute pleasure to work with from beginning to end and helped me navigate the special requirements of renovating within a condo. Tanya and Bruno are people with huge integrity, a lot of experience and initiative, and they got a big job done in record time for me. The look, feel and ambience of my renovated condo is even more amazing than I dreamed it could be, thanks to the partnership and commitment to excellent work of Condo Handyman.

Do not trust this company

This company is awful to deal with
1. No signed work order (they made amounts up as they went along)
2. They charged for premium products and then switched out with cheaper products (paint that was specified on the list work was replaced with cheaper)
3. Bruno was never on site - the owner had to present to supervise work
4, Items were broken
5. The painting was a disaster- Leo the painter got the same amount of paint on the furniture (they do not use any drop clothes or plastic when painting ) then on the walls
6. Tanya does not know how to add - they kept sending random bills for different amounts and they harassed you if you did not pay within 24 hours (their favourite threat - we will take appropriate action - meaning that during the job they threatened all the time to put a lien on your property
7. They overcharge (they dont provide any invoices) - they told me that was only fair to charge without providing any cost estimate (charged nearly $2 k to install a faucet when other companies charged $1200)
In the end - you end up exhausted, hating your condo and have to pay other people to fix their mistakes (if you want them to fix mistakes - they flat out refuse
Tanya is so messed on the billing that she was charging HST on hst

Please do not hire this company

This company took forever. They do not fix their deficiencies and they make inflate the bills. The owner is dismissive. I have had to pay several thousands of dollars to fix their mistakes. The workers do not clean up after themselves (garbage left all over condo), unnecessary damage and destruction. The work was sub-standard and the work that was outlined in the contract was not done and the Owner refused to make any fixes. I caution anyone to use this company as it is not worth it (they over price everything and then provide sub-standard work) There are much better companies out there

Worse decision to hire this company

Hired this company to do a condo renovation. Bighest mistake. Costs got inflated
No contract, they demand 50% up front. Did not get a payment schedule until project 75% after asking for one for weeks
Zero communication (i had to beg for information)i ended up firing them from the vanity countertop and I got it done for 1/3 of the cost and in 2 weeks
Please re-consider before them

Unfair and Unprofessional....

Like many reviewers here who had a bad experience with Condo Handyman I did too....All I can say is DON'T USE THEM!!! Get someone else in. The service person for my Dishwasher could not even answer basic questions. They Charged me $169.49 for the service person to come for 15 minutes to locate the leaky water intake valve and then tried to tell me it would cost $195 for the part (which is actually $50 for a Water Intake Valve) and said it would cost $170 for the labour (which apparently doesn't take long likely 15 min max) So they want $580.82 for the whole job!! I might as well get a new dishwasher.....all I can say is do your research wisely. We found someone very reasonable and professional.

Condo Handyman...not so handy

What was suppose to be a simple one hour job for about $150 turned out to be $1000!!!!! These are some shady people. They damaged my property and on top failed to disclose any work they did. When I asked questions they gave me generic answers and made the job last about a week. They charged me for multiple workers yet only one showed up to do the job. Not to mention he didn’t come prepared since I shared my own material to get the job done. I should’ve read reviews for these people before contacting them. Save your time and money and get a reputable handyman for work around your house! I would never recommend them to anyone.

Bathroom renovation

The finished outcome looked great, however was over-priced and took much longer to complete than the original estimate. I was told 2 weeks however it ended up being almost 4 weeks. Lack of communication lead to 3-4 days where no work was being done on my site. Also, I was lead to believe that there were "teams" working in my unit - tiling, flooring, painting, etc - which is how they justified spacing out the scheduling days. I later discovered there was only 1 person doing all of the work. This sent a message that a smaller site or project was less of a priority.

Company Response

Hello User,

Thank you for your review.

We are happy to hear that your fully renovated bathroom came out GREAT!

We see you have posted a few concerns and we would like to address the following:

Regarding pricing for any renovation, we work hard to comply with industry standards and respect client budgets. Before starting any renovation, we present a proposal that is agreed upon between both parties and signed off on. This sign off ensures that we and our clients understand the scope of work, material selections, timelines and pricing.

Due to the nature of any renovation selections, added upgrades and unforeseen site conditions may increase and/or decrease the bottom line. This is an important condition that is discussed with any client before final sign off and start date of a project.

Regarding bathroom renovation timelines, they typically take 2-5 weeks depending on the scope of work, unforeseen conditions of building daily accessibility and client approval for access into suite. If for any reason we cannot get a hold of the client, we cannot move forward without informing you about changes throughout the duration of the project.

Due to condo corporation rules and guidelines, it is mandatory that we hire licensed trades to complete various tasks (i.e. Plumbing, electrical, etc.) Therefore, any project size, big or small, is valued equally and coordinated with the right technicians to complete the job with integrity, professionalism and a high level of workmanship to ensure a successful renovation.

Should you have any more comments, questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact us via email at service@condohandyman.ca

replace 1 piece flooring in a condo

Not the worst out there, but definitely be careful when you choose

I hereby state everything I am going to tell you guys are true as a real estate Broker. I do not recommend you to use this company service in anyway. I am not post this review anonymously, because I guess I have to right to tell the truth after I paid $316. but have to spend additional to get the job done by someone else, plus my time for this.

Call the company, july 24th 2016. got the estimate for 1 hour job, representative was nice, the technician came on time. No complain. actually pretty satisfied at that moment.

Before I keep writing, I want to tell you, I did purchase my own material, that's my fault the floor does not fit exactly. But still can't justify what happen next.

After 10 minutes, suppose The technician use electrical tool to cut the old piece, but instead of doing that, He told me his tool is not functioning. That's fine, things happens.............& after 40 minutes or so the old piece was out.........&they try to cut the wrong piece I supplied by HAND!!!!!! since the electrical tool is not working!!!! sure, there is not success.....(I don't think they have enough space in the sedan to bring a small tale saw, those cost $200 in Home Depot)

They ask me if it is ok for them to go out and find a place to cut the floor......you thought they know where they can go and get the job done right????? NO NO NO ~~~~~.NEXT thing I know is they returned after 2 hours! without the flooring been property cut!!!!! They did say they are sorry, and they were afraid they can't the job done. I have to acknowledge, no matter what happened in the background, their altitude was acceptable. They did not mention anything about extra charge or whatsoever at that moment

Because It was my fault to supply the wrong floor, so I appreciated they were trying, and I don't mind to pay extra hour for that. (that cost about $65)

BUT SURPRISE~~~~~~~~After A WHOLE MONTH~~~~By September 2nd, 2016 I got an invoice for addition $146 dollars. I call to discuss with their management. you know what happen next, yep there is nothing they can do! It is actually normal that the technician can't tell you exactly how much you need to pay at the end, & They have the right to charge you even after 1 month~~~~~~~~~(maybe I don't know much about the law, but I try to trust the lady on the phone)

They don't have their own people, they hire contractors, and when the contractor won't acknowledge the mistake, They come after you.....end of story...

So be careful before you choose! May be the job suppose to be $100, but they bill you for $500 after couple of months.

condo renovation

I was very disappointed by CHM though I expecting them to be very professional and a reputed service. But, after site visit and lot of followup, I never heard back from them on quote or to start work which resulted me to hire another contracting company in last minute. being professional, at least a response should have been received after the site visit. very disappointed and wasn't expected this from company like CHM which is so old in market.
