Installed undersized evaporator coil

Purchased an a/c unit from four seasons comfort back in 2011. 2.5 ton unit.
On a recent schedule maintenance done it was identified the coil was leaking refrigerant.

Based on the cost to replace the coil alone and considering the unit was 8 years old I went ahead and decided to replace the whole unit.

As we take out the old coil we noticed the installed unit was undersized as it was a two ton unit which resulted in the unit failing so much earlier than it should of.

On top of that the unit was never registered with the manufacturer for the extended warranty.

Most of the reviews are great but install problems like this doesn't necessarily show up right away.

Ensure the proper equipment is being installed or better yet pay the extra for better service.

Update:
I purchased a 2.5 ton unit back in 2011 which the evaporator coil failed recently on an annual maintenance test.
My coil and a/c unit was never registered with the manufacturer by four seasons so the extended warranty of 10 years was not applicable.
I purchased a new unit (not through four seasons obviously) and upon removing the coil we found out they installed a 2 ton! A mismatch in size with the a/c unit and coil resulted in it being overworked and to fail early (a/c should not fail in 8 years).

I left feedback on homestars and craig did reach out to me, after some back and forth he agreed to make things right and reimburse me a measly $350. I had to buy a whole new a/c because they installed the wrong unit, a reputable company would have taken more responsibility.

He's great at sweet talking to get your sale but really his lack of technical knowledge showed in our conversation. Some of the questions he asked:

The unit is still under warranty, I could have replaced it for you.
This was not true as his office never registered the unit. Even if they did the manufacturer would not warranty it because it was not paired with the proper a/c tonnage. So why would I just install another 2 ton rated coil on a 2.5 ton a.c unit. Replacing the coil does not correct the issue, there has been years of additional wear and tear on the a/c unit itself as the coil could not manage the load. The damage done to the compressor over 8 years will just contaminate the new coil.

This should have been caught on the maintenance checks
So why wasn't this caught at install when the system was tested, or in 2013 when you team performed a check?

For those of you who already had your install done, I would highly recommend you get the model and serial numbers from Craig and call the manufacturer yourself or go on their website to ensure it's been registered. Also ask when it was registered.
Hopefully if you ever need warranty service you have a much better experience than I did.

Approximate cost of services:
$2,700.00

Company Response

I'm not sure who you are, but please call me at 14165247228 or email us at fourseasoncomfort@bellnet.ca. I'm sorry to hear your evaporator coil is leaking but should be under warranty. We are a reputable company and would not install a 2 ton evaporator coil with a 2.5 ton AC. The cost difference between a 2 ton and a 2.5 ton evaporator coil is $19 and our company never takes short cuts at any cost. We have hundreds of pleased client and take pride in our work. I look forward to hearing from you.

Update. Thanks for reaching out to me nod. I'm sorry we installed the incorrect evaporator coil in error 9 years ago. We would never do this intentionally. I wish you would of reached out to me when you found this out. In good faith I will be happy to reimburse you for the cost of the A-coil and the labour required to replace it.
Best Regards,
Craig
