Ceiling Fan Troubleshooting and Replacement

My elderly parents found this company in the phone book and had them come to Etobicoke to take a look at their kitchen ceiling fan. None of the lightbulbs were working even though they had been replaced. The electrician came, took apart the ceiling fan and said that the fan was damaged and needed to be replaced. My parents purchased a new fan and the same electrician returned a couple of days later, took down the old fan, assembled and installed the new one. My mother did sign the work order and all the charges were detailed. My complaint and warning is that they are exorbitantly expensive. They charged a $100 dispatch fee, $185 to install the fan, $65 to assemble the fan, $65 to assemble the light assembly, $65 to remove the old fan and $130 to troubleshoot the old fan. We had a ceiling fan installed in our bedroom recently and were charged $89, including all assembly. When we complained about the charges, the office manager wanted us to provide him with two written quotes, one of which had to be from a company that he approved and then he would "re-consider" charges! In my opinion, you should not use this company.

Approximate cost of services:
$600.00

Company Response

We would like to firstly thank you for the review, good or bad it helps us improve our processes. To address the review of interest above, the cost of our services are clearly quoted on up front with every new customer before the work begins, we do not work on an hourly rate as we consider it an unfair and unreliable way of billing. The price is the price in our books and either you want us to do the work based on that price or not. In this particular situation the homeowner had requested we assess the problem with the existing ceiling fan, which we did and was found to be defective. We were then called upon for a second visit on another day to come and install a new fan, this was considered a new job and was priced accordingly. The price which the homeowner mentioned is a combined price of two jobs which we were called upon to complete, not one. As previously stated our pricing is communicated to clients up front before conducting the work, if in the case our pricing is not competitive we are willing to price match but only within reason, or in other words apples to apples. We feel bad for the outcome of this situation; obviously the processes we have in place are designed to avoid situations like this but unfortunately it had seemingly failed us in this instance. If you would like to discuss it further please call as we are more than willing too.
