We had a problem with our house lifting due to the swelling of the clay underneath it, which caused some ugly cracks and buckling in our drywall on both levels. We attended a Home Expo in Calgary and spoke to several renovation contractors. Frank from Kurmac Builders visited our home and we felt confident right away. Frank arranged for surveyors to determine where in the house and how much it had shifted as well as obtaining a soil analysis from under the house (things that should have been done originally when we built). Through consultation with a Structural Engineer he put a plan in place to remove the drywall in the basement and cut down the wall that was constructed too tight underneath the main beam. He then devised a way to allow the wall to float with any further expansion. My wife took this an an opportunity to renovate her kitchen and upgrade the flooring and counters and also put a steam shower in the basement. This work was all completed to our satisfaction under budget. Their employees were excellent to deal with and went to great pains to keep construction dust to a minimum and cleaned up after all sub contractors. We would have no hesitation in recommending them to anybody considering a home renovation.
