High Definition Concrete Ltd.

We recently had High Definition Concrete replace our large back patio and retaining wall. Prior to that a separate company was excavating and replacing our perimeter drain tile. They said normally they do their own concrete work but this was too large a job. His first recommendation was HD Concrete.
I got a few quotes on the job. Some were higher and some were lower. Some said they were unavailable to start for five months (!) It was an expensive project and I had to wait while the drain tile project was being finished, so I spent a fair amount of time making a decision about who to use for the concrete. Talking with friends and contacts in construction, the name High Definition Concrete kept coming up.
I am really happy with all aspects of the job they did for us. In the end we decided to go all in and get a stamped concrete finish. The patio looks phenomenal. We went with a small ashlar stamp pattern on the diagonal, sand stone colour, with a darker antique patina tone added after.
Although HD Concrete had several days of labour invested in the job, and it would have been in their financial best interest to quickly complete the job and get paid, they did not rush the pour, allowing for the ground to dry out and settle first. At my request they doubled up the rebar anchored into the house foundation to ensure no future sinking of the slab.
The owner Matt has been great to deal with. He is a third-generation concrete finisher with a ton of knowledge and experience. He always took the time to find out what I wanted, and I got from him a very genuine concern that we end up happy with the results of their work. He worked personally with his crew on various aspects of the job, including the day of the pour and all the finishing.
Having started this project with almost no knowledge about the process of pouring and finishing concrete, I am left with a great respect for the craftsmanship of the trade. It was not an inexpensive endeavour, but it had to be done, and as one construction contractor friend said to me early in the exploratory phase, with concrete, you get what you pay for.

Professional, high quality work with an excellent understanding of service and design. Matt and his team delivered a perfect finished product and upgrade to our back yard. Exceeded expectations on all levels. Highly recommend HD Concrete.

Firstly, I have had a great deal of experience building a number of homes and sadly I have become very wary and skeptical of trades people. There is a lot of bluster and promises out there with very poor results. That being said, I was lucky enough to find Matt at High Definition Concrete via Homestars. He was very professional in all our dealings from the initial quote to the job completion. His crews are very pleasant and always made an effort to make us happy. The quality of of their work was excellent and on time in spite of the Covid complications. I enjoyed working and dealing with Matt and would sit down and have a beer with him anytime. We had our old asphalt driveway and carport slab redone by HD concrete last year. It's been just over a year and I already see cracks on both the driveway and in the carport. One issue I had at the time was that during the day of the install, I saw the workers not propping up the rebars sitting flat on the ground while they were pouring. I had to phone Matt and had them go back and lift the rebars from the ground. I believe the rebars should have been set on a block which was not done. On top of that the final thickness were less than the promised 4", some spots or barely over 2". While I understand all concrete can crack eventually, I do believe they skimped on both the labor and material.

We were very happy with High Definition. We found Sid, Matt and their crew to be quick to answer/address any concerns we had. The patio looks awesome. (If only we had outdoor furniture to sit on). Will be calling them again when we are ready to redo our driveway

I hired HD to pour a grey stamped concrete patio and they poured RED! I watched the first blob of concrete hit the ground and said "guys, that's red" and they said .. don't worry it will dry a different color. It dried red! Then they painted it and said put pads on all the furniture so it wont scratch and show the red! Seriously? How long will that last??? Their forming guy, who is NOT a qualified gas fitter, did the gas line work and put the wrong size gas line in the concrete so the fire table doesn't function properly! The small hose they used gives just 13000 BTU's when I need 60000. He buried a 3/8" hose in the concrete rather then the necessary 5/8" that was required. The transformer for the lights doesn't work and substandard wire was used so some lights don't work at all! They left plastic around the edges of the concrete. Sid said he would burn it out and Matt said he doesn't agree with Sid, so it's still there. Matt told me he himself is "young and still learning" and he is running the business?!?! I had to hire professionals to try to fix all their mistakes but they've poured concrete over the gas line and lights so it will never be a decent job. I wish I never met these amateurs!!!
