Review of the Maintenance Work of Cedar Shake Roof
Our home was constructed in 1998 – approximately 19 years old. There were concerns that Cedar shakes were failing because of curling at the ends of some cedar shakes. One of our neighbours had their Cedar Roof repaired by ARCO Roofing Solutions so I went over and spoke with Marc who was doing the work. He said that he will come over and perform an inspection, which he did.
Over the past three (3) years I have been talking to various Roofing companies and they all recommend that I replace the Cedar Shakes with Asphalt shingles; this did not make sense since the Cedar Shakes should last for 50 Years.
Subsequently Art Hassenrueck, the owner of ARCO came to our home to discuss the issues originating from the inspection. Art presented a sketch of the roof showing the areas that needed replacing and indicated that curling at the ends of the cedar shakes is not an issue, replacing them is just for aesthetic purposes. Art also said that Cedar Shakes Roof can last longer than 50 years if maintained properly and advised that Cedar Shakes Roof should be inspected and follow a maintenance program every 5 years.
What got my attention is that ARCO Roofing Solutions is committed to safety on the job. They have a safety program that they follow on all projects:
1. All employees attend and complete a weekly safety meeting, which cover various safety topics that are relevant to roofing work
2. Employees introduce themselves to let owners know that they are here to begin the work.
3. Workers complete a walk around the home so that they can properly fill out the Daily Hazard Assessment form. This helps employees to be aware of the potential hazards that are present at each projects/work sites.
4. Workers fill out the Fall Protection Plan form, which allows employees to start each project with fall protection and safety in mind.
5. One of the employees will go up on the roof and properly install our fall protection equipment and harness anchors.
6. The other employees will also go up on the roof, connecting their ropes and safety harnesses to the properly installed harness anchors.
7. Lastly, keeping a clean jobsite and performing a daily clean up is also a big part of being safe, and this is also something that they do very well.
I have worked on industrial construction job sites and I am very well acquainted with safety on the job so I was very impressed with ARCO owner for including safety in their work process.
There were three (3) employees who came to perform the Work, they were all very courteous and performed the Work in a professional workmanship manner. My wife and I are very pleased with the total project and would recommend ARCO Roofing Solutions for your roofing work. The cost to do the project was in line with industry standard.
