Broke contract and agreement

I never signed up for ridge vent, initially my house had maxi-vent and they messed up the original contract and installed the wrong vent.

I was told, both verbally and in writing by Chris (the owner) that I can change back to the maxi vent, free of charge, if I did not like the ridge vent. But I was to try it out for a year before deciding.

I tried it and did not like it, now when I try contacting them - Chris tells me that there is "nothing wrong" with my ridge vent and he is refusing to fulfill the agreement to replace it with the maxi vent.

I find this very unprofessional, not the way a customer should be treated. I will change my review about them once they fix the issue by fulfilling the agreement.

A bittersweet experience...

They are young hard working guys, the quality of the work is 8/10, my vote down was because of their policies.

They got my contract wrong and installed the wrong vent. The ridge-vent was added instead of the mushroom vent. I was furious when I found out because I was completely against ridge vent on my roof. These guys were new and young so I was forgiving and paid their bill in full with the condition that they will change it back to mushroom vent if I have any issues. I had major frost issue this year in my attic as a result of this new venting system. I guess ridge-vent is not for everyone and will probably be getting it changed back to mushroom vent as per agreement.

Today I had a leak where the roof meets the siding, the same area where they worked to fix a leak during the repair. They were gracious enough to send someone in to look at the issue. It was pointed out to me that the issue was with the wood corner of the siding and not related to the roof. They ended up applying 3 centimeter of caulking to the small gap, WITHOUT telling me on the spot there would be charges incurred for the labor done.

Later that day I get an surprising invoice of $225 from the company owner for the "fix" . I don't know if this was a "hail-mary" invoice, where they were just "hoping" I will pay for it. Whatever it was, it is a very sly way to force customers pay for services that they never agreed to, frankly I was quiet offended.

Anyway, after further discussion with the owner he was lenient enough to nullify the invoice as "non-mandatory" , the experience left a bittersweet taste. I shouldn't have to pay their employees to come check issues with the roof especially when its meant to be under warranty. Additional service agreements should always be mentioned to the customer beforehand.

$225 for a simple caulking fix which literally took 2 mins seemed ridicules. If it was around $50 or something I wouldn't have mind paying for it with a 'Pan Am smile'. In any case, overall they are good people to work with who are willing to evolve. Their workmanship is good and I am sure they will keep improving.

I would have given them 10/10 if this surprising incident had not occured.
