A 3 day $8600 bathroom reno started July 2nd 2014 to date still not completed properly. Countless issues, but here is what remains as of November 28, 2014. I have decided NOT to have them return and filed a complaint with the BBB and Service Alberta.
Most important! TIlerTech does NOT as of December 2014 have a Prepaid Contractors License. It is required by law if a down payment is taken and many other specifications are required on the contract as well. Please contact Service Alberta for all information needed. If you are a current TilerTECH customer PLEASE call Service Alberta for information.
Major issues still existing:
1. Cracked grout in tub surround and no baseboard in place where the trim was removed due to a sticker being caulked in place.
2. Trim is not one solid piece on both sides of surround. Even after having it taken off both sides once already.
3. All caulking needs to be redone. Was applied with fingers and has a wide spread. There is dirt and paint under it, has holes and is sloppy.
4. 3/4" drywall as put up over the existing walls. Only the middle seem was mudded and taped for the new drywall. The corners and ceiling was dapped. Tyler admitted that they did not tape the one wall the first time. Unfortunately after many attempts you can still see the We gave up and tried to fix it ourselves.
5. A second coat of paint is still needed on the walls, trim and ceiling.
6. The RIPPED floor is our biggest complaint. A smaller tub was installed then the original tub. Therefore the sub floor was 2 inches short to reach the tub. So they simply TUCKED the lino floor under the edge of the tub. We did notice and had them come back. On this first visit they only leveled half of the floor that was visible. They had to return the next day as the cement wasn't dry. Then we called and had them back to level the other side of the floor that's between the toilet and tub. However upon leveling the other side they didn't pull up the lino all the way and ripped the floor.
We called again and they came again weeks later. It was simply caulked over. It looked horrible. We called again and they sent another guy around October 15th 2014. He used white caulking over it the area and got dirt everywhere. So the rip was now a grey dirty color. He also tried to fix the drywall tape and bubbles that day. He was supposed to return the next day to paint. I called to complain again and they wanted to cover the rip with corner round. I refused as this is supposed to be a new bathroom, not a fixed bathroom.
Marco came back out AGAIN to try to patch the floor. It looked horrible. I called Tyler to say I wanted the floor replaced. Weeks later on a Monday a "professional" was to come to replace the floor. On that Monday they again where a no show. That Friday Tyler and his crew showed up late, dropped off a piece of baseboard they had to replace and left and the flooring professional showed up at 3pm. Upon talking to the flooring man he said he has meet Tyler at Homedepot around noon that day and he was asked to patch the floor. He also showed me that Marco's patch was held down by 2 way tape!! Unfortunately this guys job is bad. We now have gaps around the patch.
Customer service /Professionalism:
1. Tyler told me they had ordered the wrong vanity by mistake. It was the one I had asked for but less than 24hrs later and 2 weeks before the start date I had asked for a different one. He explained that I can take the one that was in and it would be installed tghe next day or I could wait a week for the proper one. I decided to wait. Later that day he called to say they have one in Calgary and if I PAY for his gas he will go get it. I refused. Amazingly it was there the next day anyhow.
2. They were a no show 3 times. No explanation given. Late every time scheduled as much a 9am turned into 2pm. Weeks to a month between service calls.
3. I was text from Marco "We will do all we can to try and and achieve your standards of excellence" when all I asked for is a level floor!!!
4. I received a asking if I would take a different tub as they had an extra one. I did say yes but looking back It was a mistake.
5. Texts from Tyler saying how is workers are ignoring him.
6. Conversation at home with Tyler cursing his crew for costing his thousands in repair work.
Site cleanup:
Tools left out, drywall dust & paint splatter. Used our magazines to cut objects on. Left he toilet box in our back yard. Painters tape in the toilet (that has clogged and been snaked) Poor quality workmanship
1. Non bathroom paint used on walls and trim. (Once we realized we purchased the proper paint ourselves)
2. Drywall is not mildew resistant
3. We were told twice that clear caulking had been used but it "turned" white.
4. When painting they did not take down the fixtures or outlet covers.
5. Back of vanity and trim "hacked" with hand saw. We had a niche cut in that was redone many times as it was cut wrong (too high and long wide) and then framed with 1 by 2 white boards. This was corrected after many attempts of patch work.
Thankfully Tyler showed up and told Marco to redo it not patch it. The sticker in the picture was removed on the final visit even though it was mentioned in the beginning. But by removing it they damaged the baseboard (the one they dropped off an left) and also had to replace both tub surround metal trim as mentioned above the one side is pieced together.
Supplies we provided I supplied all bathroom fixtures. Shower curtain rod (but they threw it out during demo and gave us a cheap one that is rusting now.), towel rack, toilet paper holder, toilet, baseboards, trim, paint, mirror and sink faucet. Only the toilet was taken off our bill.
We did upgrade our vanity light and were not charged the extra $12. Many other issues have been fixed but I believe should not have ever been an issue.
I understand that renovations have hiccups and can be delayed but almost 6 months for a 3 day job. Every time they came out to fix something they broke something else. If they had only leveled the floor day 1 instead of doing a trying to cover it up most of our issues never would have happened. We would never recommend this company.
