I now know how renovations should be done!

From the very beginning, I felt that Elysha genuinely heard me and understood my vision and my trepidations. Her ability to listen and advise made the experience far less terrifying then I had feared it would be (I'd been putting off the work for 18 months for this very reason).

By the time the work had commenced, the anxiety and detail obsession that I had started with had almost completely faded. I TRUSTED this woman, and more importantly the mutual respect she had with the contractors made me know that there wasn't going to be a gulf between the design and build phases and that the work would be done with the tradesmen's best efforts. How many sleepless nights did that save? I don't even know.

I never felt ignored, I knew our goals were aligned, even when we encountered the inevitable problems that I'd read about (terrible old work discovered behind walls, contractor delays, material backorders, etc), it never took long to have work orders adjusted and rescheduled to optimize the project's completion.

The finished product is exactly what I desired, but more importantly the journey was smooth and I felt like I had a true partner walking with me the whole time. Confident, supportive, and strong. The true Trifektah!

Basement Reno

Our renovation took 2 times the time scheduled by the owner of this company, without any significant reasons to explain the delays. We just received excuses to justify the longer and longer times.

The contractor that she allocated to our project was unprofessional and did a very low quality job in our home. We were extremely patient with this company because we wanted a outstanding job not a rushed one, which was what we received at the end.

Our experience with them was disappointing. The owner of this company did not show the knowledge or the interest required to supervise her contractors and to enforce them to do an outstanding job. She ended firing her own contractor when it was too late to correct several mistakes.

Additionally, Just before the first year of receiving our basement finished some flooring edges were lifting and cracking. Fortunately, the work was under warranty, and the owner of the company sent someone to "fix" the issue. They changed some flooring but the issues kept happening and of course just some months after the warranty ends we were dealing with the same problems in the same spots.

We asked her to send her contractor again, but this time the job was out of warranty and although she sent someone her answer was that the cause of the flooring problems this time was water damage or maybe that the flooring was not levelled completely. She said to us that this situation was out of her responsibility and that she can not do anything about it. Besides that she did not know how the flooring was treated during these months.

The reality is that the flooring was having the same issues in the same spots and that the flooring was treated very gently all the time.

Sadly, only almost 2 years after having the flooring installed by this company (without any case of water damage or high traffic or abuse) we had to hire a new contractor.

Last week, our new contractor removed the flooring and found little stones under the flooring pieces that explain the damage and also found that the floor was prepared improperly which explains the issues in the same spots over and over. The damage was not caused by water or by the level the floor. Just an excuse to avoid responsibility and hide the mediocre job her first contractor did.

On top of that, we are concerned not only because we have to find the way to pay for the flooring job again but also because we found mold in the cold room they insulated! We did not have another option that re-opening the walls to understand what we are dealing with!!

This is a sad story. Also, it is upsetting to trust a person, pay with your whole life saving to have a better home and having to pay again to have the some of job done professionally just after 1 year of 2.

Please hire someone with a solid company behind and real experience in the business. Get several quotes, and do not rush, take your time selecting your contractor, call to the references, choose someone who can prove that did successful jobs like those you are trying to do.

Probably, you will have to wait and pay a little more money but you will pay just one time and will avoid all these headaches.
Learn from our experience. Protect yourself from nice jobs from outside but mediocre job behind the walls!

Company Response

Hi Katherine,

Thank you for your review. I would like to clarify exactly what went on with your project since I see several facts from your review are missing.

Yes, you are correct in saying that you had a bit of a delay. Again, much of the delay was caused by the fact that you added to the scope of work half way through the project including a significant amount of work on your main floor. I was always very transparent with you regarding the extra time we would need to complete yet it was expected by you somehow that even though the work increased, the timing shouldn't.

I admit I had challenges with a trade and needed to find a solution, which I did at absolutely no additional cost to you whatsoever. Again, you always seemed very happy with the work, came to site often to see the progress and even graciously gave the first contractor that you are speaking negatively about, concert tickets for all his hard work when we completed.

Originally there was a piece of flooring at the threshold of the basement bedroom that needed to be addressed. It was done in a timely manner when brought to my attention in July of 2020.

In February of 2021 you reached out to me stating the issue came back. When I brought in my contractor to take a look, he confirmed that the two boards that seemed to have lifted at the joint (not the same location where the original repair was done) were in fact water damaged.

Upon entering the basement apartment with the contractor, we noticed that the it was unkept and had a unpleasant smell. Your tenant showed me the spot of the floor at the threshold where the original repair was done, told me everything was good, and even made a comment about how she still hadn’t taken the masking tape off the floor since the repair was done back in July. When I explained to your tenant that this new lift in the board was water damage, she definitely had a guilty reaction to the news. It smelled as though they had not been using their exhaust fans (kitchen or bathroom) properly at all which was suggested at the time. I find your statement of mould being found in the cold room suspicious seeing as it wasn't brought to my attention until your review.

I reported the finding on the flooring back to you the same day after my visit in February and did not hear back from you until July.

Five months later (from what your tenant revealed, you had not been in the country for several months) you’ve reached out threatening to go to social media to tell about your “experience” unless I rectify the problem immediately.

Furthermore, you had disclosed to me that this was your first home and first renovation. You reached out to the online community to find contractors and was recommended by a past client of mine. You had also spoken with my references. I was always transparent, kind and tried to accommodate your changes and budget as best I could. You chose to work with me and my company based on your own research.

Even at the very end of the project I re-levelled your entire garage floor at no extra cost to you, even though we had only agreed to do a small patch repair where the garage met the driveway on the original contract because of your budget constraints, as a sign of appreciation for your business.

As I’ve always said to you, I stand by my work, and am happy to resolve a problem where I can, but it’s unfair that you believe I should be repairing damages caused by your tenants.

I hope this sheds some light on the other half of the story.

Thank you

Classy bathroom reno

Elysha, Nelson and Colin did a great job on our bathroom. The renovations we well done and true to our specifications and needs. They were open to design ideas and didn't shy away from requests or changes that improved our bathroom but resulted in more work. They found ways to solve problems - didn't give up - and made improvements upon our original design that make our bathroom nicer. Elysha hunted for chair rail tile and got what we wanted. What's really unique is their ability to communicate - which is not the norm for most renovators. Easy in-person convos. They responded quickly to emails and requests, no fuss and no rigamarole. We will definitely use them again.

Kitchen Renovation

We are so grateful to Elysha and her amazing team for helping us bring our kitchen renovation project to life! We completed a full kitchen reno plus a number of other smaller house projects including painting, new pot lights, floor varnish, basement floor repair, drywall, etc. What was most amazing about Elysha was her ability to listen to our ideas and help us make them happen. We had a particular style we were looking for and she nailed it. We loved the contractors she had working in our home. Like any major project, there are always bumps along the way. Elysha and her contractors explained things clearly and helped us solve any problem. Elysha continues to be responsive as small questions as things have popped up. Thank you Trifektah!!

Walkout basement

After having a terrible experience by a previous company (lawyers and all) finding Elysha was like finding the holy grail. She was creative, honest, and very clear when it came to timelines and prices. The project went on as expected (with a few surprises that were speculated previously and handled properly). She stayed within the budget we had talked about and even though there were some delays, it was mostly due to weather and they made up for the lost time by working extra hours. I have only good things to say about Elysha and her crew. If you’re looking to do any renovations, look no further. It was such a relief to have someone I trusted dig a walkout in my property. She’s also got the best attitude and great vibe.

Company Response

Hi Linda,

Thank you for writing your review.

Its on not only in my company's best interest but also in the interest of my trades to truthfully disclose the reality of this situation.

Just to clarify, the project took just over 6 weeks as per our agreed upon timeline. As you were well informed in the beginning, the project would take approximately 6 weeks from the day we started demolition as per your original contract that you signed. The review was made to sound very nonchalant, but as we both know, there is more to this than what has been stated.

Yes, we did remove the kitchen, removed a wall, removed your flooring, rebuilt a drop ceiling, rebuilt a half wall that you originally asked us to remove, we smoothed out the popcorn ceiling in your entire condo, ran new lines of electrical for your new potlights and dimmer switches you requested mid-project, ran all new electrical lines for your appliances, relocated your thermostat, add new electrical outlets, relocated switches, we scratch coated the kitchen floor and installed new tile, we had to install cork underlay and engineered wood flooring throughout your condo, installed new baseboards and shoe moldling, we had doors to cut down and reinstall due to height changes from your original floor, and paint the kitchen area and installed the backsplash and did all the plumbing connections once the counters were installed. Once the cabinetry was installed (which was delivered a day early) we faced a couple challenges with the cabinetry that were quickly remedied (within a couple days) and still completed on time. The countertop templating and installation was expedited, again, within our schedule and we completed the project 10 days earlier than what was stipulated in the original contract. Aside from the work stated above we did several items for you at no charge. These items included: Dismantling your built in closet and relocating it for you to the opposite side of your room, painting the wall in preparation for the closet, remedying electrical issues you were faced with due the outdated electrical panel we were dealing with, building out the kitchen wall to accommodate an unanticipated plumbing challenge we had to contend with, installing a light fixture you purchased last minute and installing tile at your peninsula, and we also returned your extra wood flooring at no charge to you for our services. On top of all that, I even negotiated a much larger amount that you received via your insurance claim for the flooring replacement as you were originally ill-informed by the insurance adjuster. You were EXTREMELY grateful for that and we even spent lunch together (it happened to be Valentines day) after that meeting! You had also praised our crew for the clean and efficient way they were working. Our crew was courteous, clean and professional the entire project. The entire project was going very well and in a timely manner up until the last two weeks, where you took it upon yourself to contact my trades behind my back and try and arrange to have work done outside of my arranged schedule. You were rude, condescending, aggressive and vulgar, not only to myself, but also to Luis and his crew and even my flooring company. I understand you were also anxious to get back into your home, but your level of inappropriate behaviour both in person and via emails was unnecessary for a mature 60+ year old woman.

The final product turned out beautifully and one of my trades doing work in your home told me how you told him how happy you were. We are not deserving of a 2 out of 10. This is not reflective of the quality of work that was done , the timeline or the pricing, it's clearly a reflection of something else that is out of my control. However, you are entitled to your own opinion, even though its clearly falsified.

If anyone reading this wants further information, please feel free to contact me. I have no qualms about discussing this or disclosing the disrespectful emails received from this client.

I also have the final photos for this project, since Linda had only posted a couple photos from the first few days of demolition.

Kitchen Renovation

Bought my condo a little over 10 years ago and the work in the "brand new" kitchen was done very shoddy and cheap. It has all fallen apart over the last couple of years where even the cabinets started peeling. I had no room to put anything more than I already had--every inch of counter space was taken! I was at my wit's end. I thought about doing an Ikea kitchen but a good friend referred me to Elysha at Trifektah instead. She designed a warm and bright kitchen for me that has been built to last and has added so much value to my place. It's functional in a way that I didn't think was possible for such a small space. I have much, much more storage now! I love my new kitchen. I could not be any happier with their work. Thank you to Elysha and her team for a job well done!

Thank you for your kind words Vince. It was a pleasure collaborating with you both on your project. Your home turned out beautifully and all the personal touches you and your wife incorporated into the space made it all that much more cozy and functional. We look forward to your next renovation soon!

Home renovation

We were looking for a company that was able to provide end to end service. After our initial meeting with Elysha, she designed and priced out two different plans within a week. Her design for our main floor was so different and bold from what we had, we needed a few days to wrap our heads around it but realized that it was the best use of the available space. We decided to have the overall renovation completed in 2 phases: first the main floor and the second floor the following year. Elysha gave us an approximate start date for the first part of the project but a few days before commencing the work, due to complications at their previous project she moved it back by 2 months. This would have impacted us in significant ways, so she offered to start with the second part of the project instead that required different manpower. Looking back, it turned out to be better because we are done with renovations now.
The work provided by Team Trifektah is of high quality, the decision-making process was not overwhelming under Elysha's guidance and they were there for every step of the way. Elysha was very quick to respond to any request. She coordinated times for installations, deliveries etc. She was very clear to communicate what to expect and when.
Our project took months to finish, but we are very pleased with the result. We would highly recommend Elysha and Team Trifektah to anybody.

We were looking to modernize our condo. However, we do not know where and how to start. Elysha and her team at Trifektah conceived a very beautiful design for the whole place. During the project, Trifektah responded promptly to our further inputs and took great care to ensure that all goes according to plan. We are very satisfied in the way Trifektah handled the project from beginning to the end. Highly recommended.
